About the Opportunity

Length of Fellowship: 10 months
Are you passionate about having a positive impact on the environment while assisting under-resourced buildings with energy savings and policy compliance? As a Building Energy Efficiency Fellow in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful sustainability initiatives with the Smart Buildings Center.
This is a remote position with the expectation of occasional site visits in the Oregon area. This position requires the employee to be physically located within Oregon state. Only candidates currently residing within the state of Oregon will be considered.
With support and guidance from multiple technical partners, the Building Energy Efficiency Fellow will undertake a building performance scope and help craft a work plan to support Oregon building owners’ efforts to meet the state's Building Performance Standard.
Projects you will be working on include:
- Outreach to building owners who are required to comply.
- Assist buildings in understanding the standard.
- Assist buildings with taking the first steps to comply.

About Our Partner: Smart Buildings Center
The Smart Buildings Center Education Program (SBCEP) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that believes the smarter use of technology and practices in the built environment, particularly as they relate to building operations and management, will enable a cleaner, healthier, and more productive future. SBCEP seeks to establish thought leadership for smart technologies and practices within the built environment, and pursues its objective through the following pillars of activity: delivering training programs to educate the building workforce of the future; enabling industry-leading demonstration projects; and connecting the industry through hosting and participating in smart buildings events.
What You’ll Do
- Outreach to building owners, including creating and providing resources with information regarding compliance, timeline, mapping, incentives, and materials to share with their building occupants.
- Direct resource support to aid building owner compliance, including: Assistance with gathering data to identify building Energy Use Index (EUIs) and EUIT, creating a package of templates for documentation that sites are required to submit for compliance, and offering remote support to organizations in completing their required documentation 4-6 hours per customer for up to 20 customers.
- Develop Operations and Maintenance (O&M) plans as required by the Standard.
- Development of Energy Management plans as required by the Standard.
What We’re Looking For
- Related degree and/or experience in fields related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, data analysis, building efficiency, and construction.
- Be comfortable with the basic functions of Google Office Suite, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Be an organized self-starter and have excellent time management skills.
- Strong communications skills (writing, corresponding, speaking) with the ability to communicate with multiple types of organizations and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments, make independent judgments and/or decisions, and discern when action at a higher level is required.
- Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and maintain an organized and well-communicated workflow.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to be available at various sites 4-5 days per week.
- Follow all SEI policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- The ability to work on a remote basis, with the expectation of occasional site visits in the Oregon area.

- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
