Location Type: Remote

Do you have a passion for addressing climate challenges and building a foundation in energy management practices? As a Strategic Energy Management Associate through the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll apply your skills to support impactful sustainability initiatives with Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. This is a remote role, but if you live within commuting distance of the Puget Sound area, you will have occasional site visits and customer interactions.

In this role, you will support the development and delivery of a strategic energy management curriculum to foster a culture around energy efficiency and achieve continuous energy improvement by identifying behavioral and operational opportunities for improvement at various facilities (potentially industrial, commercial, and multifamily). This includes technical and non-technical support for a variety of energy efficiency programs.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with diverse customers, drive meaningful outcomes in Strategic Energy Management, and collaborate with talented colleagues and clients. It’s a chance to expand your professional skills, build your network, and play an integral role in advancing AESC’s mission-driven initiatives.

About Our Partner: AESC

Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. (AESC), a Franklin Energy company, is an energy consultancy that delivers solutions in energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed energy resources, and custom software implementation. They have a collaborative and professional work environment. They are passionate about what they do and are looking for talented people who share their passion. Sustainability is at the core of everything they do. Every program and project they work on is based on delivering measurable energy-related solutions. Every role is critical to supporting and catalyzing the development, delivery, and success of those programs.

What You’ll Do

  • Track deliverables, milestones, and communicate status and actions to fellow team members.
  • Schedule team meetings, organize tasks/deliverables, and contribute to strategic planning efforts.
  • Provide delivery teams with logistics support such as procuring engineering equipment and coordinating site activities.
  • Gather data related to energy use in buildings through site inspections, interviews, and research to identify energy-saving opportunities, including capital, operations & maintenance (O&M), and behavioral opportunities.
  • Prepare written analysis of findings, recommendations, and results of energy projects for submittal to clients.
  • Coach customers on the implementation of energy projects.
  • This fellow will support the delivery of various programs, including but not limited to various consultant tasks for Seattle City Light's Customer Energy Solutions (CES) division and Puget Sound Energy's Large Power User (LPU) Strategic Energy Management (SEM) cohort.

What We’re Looking For

  • Basic understanding of demand-side management, supply-side management, permanent load shifting, and demand response.
  • Experience in customer service, account management, or project management.
  • Interact closely with coworkers to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • The ability to work on a remote basis. If you live within commuting distance of the Puget Sound area, you will have occasional site visits and customer interactions.
  • Commitment to a fair workplace that honors the experiences, voices, viewpoints, and values of all individuals.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
  • May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of HVAC, lighting, motors, and/or other custom commercial and industrial equipment.
  • Coursework or degree and/or commensurate experience in energy, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Experience delivering workshops to large groups in virtual and in-person settings.
  • The ability to inspire people to change the way they view and manage energy.

We encourage everyone interested in this position to apply, even if you don’t meet every qualification. We value all perspectives and believe that a unique background can bring significant strengths to this role, even if some qualifications are not fully met.

What We Provide

  • A fixed, monthly stipend of $3900.
  • $1000 end-of-program financial award.
  • Health care coverage with 100% of health care insurance premiums covered by SEI.
  • Climate Corps Fellows receive 20 personal days for a standard 10-month fellowship (equivalent to about 2 days per month), which may be used for vacation, holidays, or sick time. Fellowships longer than 10 months include additional days, prorated accordingly.
  • Comprehensive career-readiness training, including interview prep, salary negotiation, and resume building.
  • Panels, workshops, and networking with climate resilience industry professionals.
  • Professional networking and learning opportunities.
  • The University of California Climate Stewards Certification equips you to lead community and ecosystem resilience initiatives.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
