Head of Platform Engineering, Reliability & Control

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Interested in joining one of Canada’s top-performing asset managers? We are seeking a Head of Platform Engineering, Reliability & Control to lead our horizontal engineering function and shared control plane.  In this role, you will shape a more connected, observable, and automated technology ecosystem spanning data, integration, and front-to-back platforms. You will define the architecture, standards, and operating model for command-and-control capabilities, SRE practices, process orchestration, release governance, and automation. Partnering closely with Infrastructure, Security, Service Desk, Data, and platform teams, you will improve reliability, transparency, and change governance across the enterprise. Success will be measured by stronger platform stability, faster incident detection and recovery, more predictable releases, and reduced manual effort.  We operate on a hybrid model with three days a week in-office to facilitate team collaboration

What You Will Do

  • Own and evolve the enterprise control plane architecture, establishing a scalable command-and-control layer that provides real-time visibility into system health, dependencies, data flows, and operational risk.
  • Define and implement SRE and observability standards, enabling proactive monitoring, faster incident detection, improved root cause analysis, and consistent reliability practices across distributed systems and platforms.
  • Lead release governance and change management frameworks, ensuring deployments are predictable, auditable, and aligned with risk and compliance expectations across a complex, regulated technology environment.
  • Drive enterprise-wide automation by implementing AI-enabled monitoring and process orchestration capabilities that reduce manual intervention, improve signal quality, and increase operational efficiency at scale.
  • Improve integration reliability across APIs, event streams, batch workflows, and vendor platforms, reducing failure rates, improving SLA adherence, and strengthening end-to-end data pipeline performance.
  • Standardize developer experience by establishing common tooling, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure patterns, and engineering practices that enable teams to build, test, and deploy systems consistently and efficiently.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Security, Service Desk, Data teams, and external vendors to improve production health, reduce incident frequency, and minimize the blast radius of operational failures.
  • Establish and track performance metrics including SLOs, MTTR, deployment frequency, and automation rates, using insights to continuously improve platform reliability, scalability, and change predictability.

What You Bring

  • Proven senior leadership experience in platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or engineering operations, with a track record of building and scaling shared engineering capabilities across complex, federated technology environments.
  • Deep expertise in at least two areas such as SRE/observability, platform engineering, systems integration, release engineering, or process automation, with the ability to apply them pragmatically at enterprise scale.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, including APIs, event-driven design, data flows, and cross-system dependencies, with experience improving resilience and performance across interconnected platforms.
  • Hands-on experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization, orchestration platforms, and modern deployment strategies that enable frequent, reliable, and low-risk software releases.
  • Proficiency with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, or cloud-native platforms, with experience designing enterprise-wide telemetry and alerting strategies.
  • Experience operating within regulated environments, designing and implementing change controls, audit-ready processes, and governance frameworks that balance risk management with engineering velocity.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration and process intelligence tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Camunda, Temporal, or similar platforms, along with a practical understanding of AIOps and automation trends.
  • A structured, engineering-led leadership style with strong stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing across teams and driving alignment without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy or slowing delivery

The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $185,000. The salary range provided reflects the base salary range for this position as required by legislation. In addition, there is an annual performance bonus which contributes to the total compensation for this position. Further questions may be directed to the HR team during the interview process.
