Intern, Retail Portfolio Operations

We are looking for a Retail Portfolio Operations Intern to join our Toronto-based Investment Resource Group. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in investment operations, financial services, process improvement, and technology. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience supporting retail portfolio operations while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment

What You Will Do

  • Assist with maintaining and reconciling client portfolio data.
  • Support the maintenance of operational systems and data used across portfolio administration, trade management, and reporting platforms.
  • Assist with quarter-end fee processing and related operational activities.
  • Respond to routine inquiries from custodians and internal business partners under guidance from team members.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports for operational and management purposes.
  • Support account transfer processing and documentation activities.
  • Participate in operational improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Assist with process documentation and workflow reviews.
  • Contribute ideas for improving efficiency through technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools.

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large data sets while maintaining accuracy.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and an interest in understanding business processes.
  • Ability to learn quickly, prioritize competing tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Interest in leveraging technology to improve operational processes.
  • Familiarity with AI tools (such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Power Automate, or similar technologies) is considered an asset.
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, process mapping, or automation tools is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new concepts, systems, and processes.
  • Interest in continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Previous internship, co-op, volunteer, academic project, or work experience in financial services, operations, technology, or data analysis is considered an asset but is not required. We welcome candidates who are eager to learn and develop their careers in investment management.
  • We are looking for individuals who are curious about emerging technologies and motivated to explore how artificial intelligence, automation, and data-driven insights can improve operational processes and client experiences.

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 CDN annualized. The salary range provided reflects the base salary range for this position as required by legislation. Further questions may be directed to the HR team during the interview process.
