Clarasight is seeking a stellar person with exceptional software engineering talent that is profoundly committed to reinventing how enterprises close the gap between climate-related intent and action through building the Carbon Planning and Analytics platform. 

About You

The right person for this role will be a highly, internally motivated, strong backend technical contributor with strong experience expertly balancing quality and time to market over short, medium, and long time horizons. It is important that you work fluidly through the whole lifecycle of delivering value and delight to our customers, from pain to medicine. How you prioritize and manage your focus is key. You have seen a wide range of problems and efficiently pattern match solutions, which you leverage to facilitate collaboration across both technical and non-technical audiences. Most of all, you’re interested in using your software engineering capabilities to make a foundational contribution to reversing climate change.

We are seeking a talented Java Developer to join our dynamic team and contribute to building and optimizing our cutting-edge data-driven product. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Java and Spring Boot, with proven expertise in BigQuery, SQL, and OLAP systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex datasets and collaborate with a highly skilled team to deliver scalable and efficient backend solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of core systems that power the platform's Planning, Scenario Modeling, and Analytics capabilities
  • Drive the development of intra-system interoperability
  • Execute the full software development lifecycle; technical analysis and design, development, and unit test phases
  • Identify, deliver, and drive improvements and innovations within the software, including large-scale technological and architectural changes
  • Work across many subsystems successfully deliver value to customers
  • Become a subject matter expert in travel and expense data and planning software systems
  • Provide technical leadership and share knowledge, for instance, through code reviews, pairing, ADRs, and presentations
  • Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
  • Design and optimize queries for BigQuery, focusing on large-scale data analysis
  • Work with relational databases to create efficient schemas, write complex queries, and maintain data integrity
  • Build and manage OLAP systems for multidimensional data analysis and reporting
  • Create and maintain RESTful APIs with a focus on performance, security, and scalability
  • Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to design and implement ETL processes and data pipelines
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and optimize code to enhance system reliability and performance

A Few Things We’re Looking For

  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages including Java and TypeScript, having led the full-lifecycle of multiple multi-person projects
  • Ability and willingness to learn other coding languages and patterns quickly
  • Experience going from 0 to 1 
  • Solid knowledge of SQL and data-intensive, asynchronous, distributed systems
  • Experience building or using Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) systems
  • Familiarity with OLAP systems and concepts of multidimensional data modeling
  • Led a multi-person development effort on a system using Spring Boot with dependency injection and a RESTful API
  • Understanding of software design patterns, best practices, and architecture principles
  • Experience working in an agile development environment using git and agile project management tools
  • Ability to define and uphold SLAs for operational processes you support
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
  • Experience in global, enterprise SaaS development
  • Collaborate with other Software and QA Engineers, Data Scientists, Report Developers, Product Managers, and Customer Success Professionals
  • Ability to debug hard problems at every level of the stack, i.e. you can debug a web application problem single-handedly all the way from the browser, through the transport, through the application and servers and databases and asynchronous queues

  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery for querying and data optimization
  • AWS (S3, RDS, EC2, IAM, Fargate, etc.) expertise

Compensation

$75,000 - $110,000 USD
