About the Role: Physical Education Teacher
The Physical Education (PE) Teacher plans and delivers engaging, age-appropriate instruction that develops students' physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits. In addition to teaching structured lessons, this role supports student well-being by fostering a positive, inclusive environment where every student feels capable and motivated to participate. The PE Teacher also monitors student progress, maintains a safe learning environment, and collaborates with school staff to support the whole child both inside and outside the gymnasium.
Responsibilities:
Instruction Delivery & Curriculum Development (65%)
- Plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned physical education lessons for all students
- Develops and implements a curriculum that builds physical fitness, motor skills, coordination, and sport-specific skills
- Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of all students regardless of ability level
- Incorporates health and wellness education into physical education instruction
- Assesses student progress and adjusts instruction based on individual and class-wide needs
Student Engagement & Support (20%)
- Creates a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where all students feel welcome and motivated to participate
- Models and reinforces sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and personal responsibility in all activities
- Establishes and maintains clear behavioral expectations for the gym, field, and all PE settings
- Supports students in developing a positive relationship with physical activity and their own health
- Ensures the safety of all students during physical activity by enforcing safety protocols and proper equipment use
- Inspects and maintains PE equipment and facilities, reporting any concerns to administration
- Responds appropriately to injuries or medical situations in accordance with school policy
Collaboration & Professional Growth (10%)
- Participate in school-wide professional development to continuously refine instructional practice, including regular data and assessment reflection cycles
- Engage in feedback cycles with the Dean of Academics and Principal to improve teaching effectiveness
Family & Community Engagement (5%)
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress, celebrating successes and addressing challenges proactively
- Participate in school events, family conferences, and outreach efforts to build strong relationships with families and the community
- Help students and families see the relevance of physical fitness in their everyday lives
Ideal Candidate Skills and Experiences
- 3+ years of teaching experience, preferably in high school or middle school physical education
- Ability to design and implement a well-rounded curriculum that addresses fitness, movement, and sport skills
- Skill in differentiating instruction for students of varying ability levels, including students with disabilities or special needs
- Experience with standards-based grading and student assessment in a PE setting
