DSP - Optical Frontend Modeling Engineer
About the Role:
Celero Communications Inc. is an exciting and fast-growing start-up in the semiconductor industry, pushing boundaries with innovative technologies that power the world’s most advanced AI and data center infrastructure.
We are looking for skilled and motivated engineers to join our team and help us build optical transceivers for next-generation optical modems. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in modeling and simulation of electrical and optical components in fiber-optic communication systems, and experience analyzing system performance in the presence of real-world hardware impairments. Candidates with industry experience are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop system-level models of fiber-optic communication links, including electrical frontends, optical components, and fiber channel effects.
- Model and simulate RF and analog electrical frontends, including DACs, ADCs, drivers, TIAs, and other analog components used in optical transceivers.
- Model optical components and subsystems, including modulators, photodetectors, lasers, and optical amplifiers.
- Evaluate the impact of hardware non-idealities and impairments such as bandwidth limitations, noise, nonlinearities, and quantization effects.
- Perform optical link budget analysis and simulation to evaluate system margins and performance limits.
- Develop simulation frameworks to analyze end-to-end optical communication system performance.
- Collaborate with DSP and ASIC teams to evaluate how frontend impairments affect DSP algorithm performance.
- Develop and maintain high-fidelity floating-point models of system components and communication links.
- Document modeling assumptions, results, and performance analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of industry experience in optical communications or related fields.
- Strong background in fiber-optic communication systems.
- Experience modeling electrical and optical components of optical transceivers.
- Experience performing optical link budget analysis and system-level performance simulations.
- Experience modeling analog/RF frontends, including DAC/ADC, drivers, modulators, TIAs, and photodetectors.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar simulation environments.
- Familiarity with digital signal processing for communication systems.
- Familiarity with forward error correction (FEC) concepts is a plus.
- Experience with version control systems, specifically GitHub.
- Strong analytical and system-level thinking skills.
- Team player with a mindset focused on the successful delivery of the first product.
Why Join Us
- The chance to play a foundational role at a high-growth semiconductor start-up.
- Work on cutting-edge optical communication technologies powering AI and hyperscale data centers.
- A collaborative, international team culture where ideas and initiative are valued.
- The opportunity to grow alongside Celero as we scale and shape the future of our industry.
- A competitive compensation package including salary, performance bonuses, and stock options.
