JOB SUMMARY:

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 275 employees working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSIS is seeking the 2026-2027 Schwartz Fellow—a nine-month, full-time, in-person, paid fellowship for an emerging professional interested in the intersection of communications and public policy. The Schwartz Fellow will work as part of CSIS’s External Relations team to support the Center’s outreach across earned media, social media, and multimedia platforms.

The H. Andrew Schwartz Memorial Fellowship was established to honor CSIS’s longtime Chief Communications Officer, whose passion and creativity transformed how think tanks engage the world. Andrew’s professional expertise lay at the nexus of national security policy and communications, but his true calling was mentoring young professionals and helping them gain a foothold in Washington. This fellowship carries forward that spirit by creating a pathway for early-career professionals to contribute to one of Washington’s most innovative communications teams while receiving mentorship from CSIS scholars.

This is a nine-month restricted fellowship based in-person in Washington DC. The biweekly rate will be based on an annualized salary of $57,000. Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter to be considered for the position.

  • Identify opportunities for innovative storytelling through data visualization, video, and audio;
  • Assist with analytics tracking across CSIS’s digital platforms; capture CSIS performance snapshots and track key performance metrics; and
  • Contribute to creative planning sessions with the communications team.
