Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly technical Director of Systems Engineering to lead the core electrical hardware, systems, and software development of our next-generation products, while providing ongoing systems engineering leadership for our current core products. In this role, you will be the primary technical leader responsible for translating complex user needs into robust system architectures. You will directly manage and scale a multi-disciplinary team encompassing Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Software/Embedded Linux. Crucially, you will oversee complete system integration, ensuring seamless interaction across the hardware and software stack, while guiding key external integrations and development partners.
What you'll do:
Engineering Leadership: Manage, mentor, and actively grow the Electrical, Systems, and embedded software engineering teams.
Systems Engineering & Architecture: Own the system-level architecture of core and next-gen products. Drive requirements generation, flow-down, and traceability across hardware and software disciplines. Ensure the system is designed for reliability, scalability, and manufacturability .
Software Oversight: Guide the software development strategy of next-gen products. Oversee both the embedded stack and the OS-SW teams, driving OS-level configurations, kernel optimizations, and managing external contractors for board support packages (BSPs) .
Hardware Execution: Lead the EE team through the full hardware lifecycle, from component selection and schematic capture to PCB layout, board bring-up, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
Cross-Functional Integration: Act as the technical bridge between Mechanical Engineering, Software, Data Science, core FW teams, Clinical, Quality/Regulatory, and Product Management to deliver a cohesive medical device
What We're Looking For:
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. PhD degree highly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in systems, hardware, and embedded development, with at least 3+ years in a management or director-level role.
- Strong background in Systems Engineering principles, including requirements management and complex system integration.
- Deep technical expertise in Embedded Linux environments.
- Solid electrical engineering foundation, with hands-on experience in production level board design.
- Hands-on experience with time series signal analysis and digital signal processing (DSP). Must be capable of independently analyzing data, with direct experience in EEG data analysis highly preferred.
- MedTech experience is highly preferred, specifically working with complex devices that integrate mechanical, electrical, software, and AI components.
- Direct experience with development of WiFi connected / IoT devices and embedded GUIs is a strong plus.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.

Compensation Range
$216,000 - $283,000 USD
A candidate’s final salary offer will be based on their skills, education, work location and experience, and thus it may differ from the posted range. Compensation may also include bonuses consistent with Ceribell’s corporate compensation plan.
