
Controller, Revenue & Billing
The role, in a nutshell:
We are seeking a Controller to lead revenue accounting and billing operations, with ownership of ASC 606 compliance and collections. This role will play a critical part in ensuring accurate revenue recognition, efficient billing practices, and strong controls around the quote-to-cash cycle. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in revenue accounting and enjoys building scalable systems and processes.
What you'll do:
- Lead all aspects of revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606, including contract review, multi-element arrangements, and variable consideration assessments
- Oversee billing, invoicing, collections, and cash application processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and a strong customer experience
- Manage accounting for deferred revenue, contract assets, and capitalized commissions with robust reconciliations and reporting
- Develop and maintain revenue-related accounting policies and internal controls, ensuring consistency across geographies and product lines
- Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, Deal Desk, Legal, and FP&A to ensure alignment across the full quote to cash cycle
- Own system design and automation for billing and collections, including evaluating, implementing, and optimizing ERP/CRM integrations (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with external audit and regulatory requirements related to revenue recognition, disclosures, and SOX readiness
- Deliver timely, accurate reporting on revenue, cash, deferred revenue, and other key order-to-cash metrics to leadership and cross-functional partners
- Identify and drive process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy across billing and revenue operations
What we're looking for:
- CPA strongly preferred; public accounting background (Big 4 or similar) also preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant ownership of revenue accounting and billing operations
- Deep technical knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue-related accounting standards
- Hands-on experience implementing and scaling billing and revenue recognition systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Zuora, Subskribe CPQ, or similar platforms)
- Proven ability to design and enforce internal controls across the order-to-cash cycle
- Strong leadership track record, with experience managing and mentoring teams and driving cross-functional initiatives
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex revenue issues into clear insights for executives
- Preferred: Experience in a high-growth SaaS or technology company, including exposure to subscription models, usage-based billing, and international revenue considerations
Base Salary Range
$170,000 - $190,000 USD
