About Communities United for Police Reform (CPR): CPR is an unprecedented campaign to end discriminatory policing practices in New York and build a lasting movement that promotes public safety and reduces reliance on policing. CPR runs coalitions of over 200 local, statewide and national organizations and has won significant organizing, policy and litigation victories since being launched in 2012, including a NYC Budget Justice campaign that organizing to move resources away from policing and criminalization and toward community-based, non-police safety solutions, community and social services and infrastructure investments that will improve safety for all New Yorkers.

Position Summary: The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing CPR’s operations, administrative and fiscal processes and help build operational strategies and policies to keep CPR functioning smoothly. The Operations Manager will work with CPR's Interim Executive Director, fiscal sponsor, and relevant staff to improve operational, HR and fiscal systems and protocols. As a member of a small staff team, the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to CPR’s issues, and flexible and effective in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Position Reports to: Interim Executive Director

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (90%)

  • Operations and Administrations: Work with the Managing Director and CPR fiscal sponsor to assess and update fiscal sponsor agreement, operational protocols, and fiscal and HR systems; work with CPR’s Administrative Assistant to manage and oversee the CPR’s office space and remote work needs, including identifying and managing system improvement projects to create efficient and effective of hybrid work environment; oversee key IT improvement processes for in-office and remote work needs; research, evaluate, monitor and update vendor contracts; development and updates of administrative policies, as needed.

  • Human Resources: Manage human resource and benefits administration needs with CPR’s Managing Director, fiscal sponsor, and relevant staff; assist with creating and implementing new processes that make it easier for staff to understand and access benefits; ensure accountability for following HR processes; manage the overall recruitment and hiring processes for new hires

  • Legal compliance: Ensure that all city, state, federal filings, and registrations are current; work with fiscal sponsor to ensure compliance with applicable governmental regulations, including city and state lobbying requirements; ensure the maintenance of administrative and operations filing systems

  • Fiscal Management: provide ongoing fiscal and bookkeeping oversight, including the overall management of accounts payable and receivables and maintaining accurate and timely accounting records; work with fiscal sponsor, bookkeeping consultants and CPR Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate and timely monthly reconciliation of income and expenses; produce monthly financial reports, including but not limited to budget to actuals, profit and loss reports, and balance sheets; assist in coordination of annual budgeting process and implementation of budget monitoring, modifications and cash flow projections; assess and update fiscal policies, as needed.

  • Supervise CPR’s Administrative Assistant

Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in resource development activities, including fundraising appeals and asks.
  • Share infrastructure/administrative responsibilities with other staff; participate in staff and other campaign meetings, as requested.

Qualifications & Skills of Ideal Candidate

  • Passion for/knowledge of police accountability issues, and demonstrated commitment to the vision and values of CPR. Knowledge of key issues, commitment and demonstrated experience working with diverse communities directly affected by discriminatory policing, including: communities of color, low-income people, youth, LGBTQ people, homeless people, immigrants, Muslim communities, women, and people with disabilities. Familiarity with community organizing and social justice preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience providing financial management and implementing organizational operations, ideally in the context of social justice and or non-profit organizations. Strong financial management background, with experience creating and managing budgets, accounting and fiscal forecasting. Experience overseeing administrative and operations management to ensure organizational effectiveness and support strong staff culture.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent writing; ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences; experience working well in teams and able to operate independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills: creative, results and detail-oriented, excellent follow-through and able to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities within deadlines.
  • Experience with data-entry and a variety of database management systems (e.g. CRM, financial systems and project management tools).
  • Experience recruiting, retaining and supervising consultants, staff and volunteers.
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Quickbooks, Asana, CiviCRM (or other CRM system), etc.

Compensation and Schedule: This is a full time position (40 hours/week). The salary range for this position is $80,000-90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Generous benefits package includes: paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; guaranteed retirement contribution after 1 year; commuter benefits and paid time off package that includes vacation, personal days, holidays, and sick leave. Most work will be during business hours (10am-6pm), with some variation as needed.

This is a hybrid position based in the NYC area. CPR staff are required to be in the office 2 days per week, and as needed when required by work responsibilities. Most work will be during business hours (10am-6pm) with some flexibility. Staff schedules may vary based on individual needs, campaign activities, and will occasionally require working evenings and weekends. The organization closes between December 25 and January 1, and observes a summer Friday schedule from the 3rd Friday in July through Labor Day. Additional in-office days are assessed based on organizational needs.
