Staff Accountant (Biohub SF)

The Opportunity

Each of the research entities is a separate limited liability company and they are subsidiaries that are wholly owned by the parent company, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, Inc.

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Finance team in a newly created role reporting to the CZ Biohub SF Accounting Manager. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting the general accounting operations, month-end close, and ad-hoc projects.

You will

Accounting

• Assist and participate in closing the monthly books in a timely manner and producing quality financial GAAP reports, including:
  • Collaborating with the team and participating in monthly financial close meetings
  • Collaborating with internal and external personnel to obtain the required information for month end transactions and journal entries
  • Proper cutoffs and accruals
  • Journal entries
  • Account reconciliations
• Other accounting functions:
  • Review and audit employee expense reports and follow up as necessary
  • Review and account for company credit card transactions
  • Assist in fixed asset maintenance
  • Provide backup for Accounts Payable
  • Assist or perform in ad-hoc projects as needed

Internal Controls and Systems

• Learn and comply with existing accounting processes and procedures
• Adhere to Company policies and procedures
• Comply with SOX-like processes and controls
• Assist in identifying process deficiencies, establishing and implementing process improvements

You have

Essential –

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience
• Working knowledge of GAAP accounting
• Detail-oriented and diligent in meeting deadlines
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in MS Office, with strong Excel skills
• Hands-on, self-starter who can thrive in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Have impeccable ethics and integrity
• Handle sensitive financial information with strict confidentiality and integrity
• Be a credible representative of the Finance team and the Biohub
• Growth potential and desire for increased responsibilities within Finance

Nice to have -

• Exposure to non-profit accounting
• Life sciences or biotech industry experience
• Systems experience with NetSuite, Coupa, and Concur

Compensation

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $104,000.00 - $130,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
