Postdoctoral Fellow, Advanced Single Cell Technologies Platform
The Team
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York (CZ Biohub NY) (https://www.czbiohub.org/ny/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Columbia University, The Rockefeller University, and Yale University - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub NY itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and develop new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.
Our Vision
- We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments
 - We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas
 - The technologies developed at CZ Biohub facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond

Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of CZ Biohub Network and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.
The Opportunity
The Advanced Single Cell Technologies platform at CZ Biohub NY builds and deploys enabling technologies (assays, microfluidic systems, and automation) for high-throughput single-cell profiling. Our mission is to engineer scalable, robust platforms that power collaborations in human disease research with particular focus on immune system interactions. We focus on method creation and performance scaling (biochemistry, microfluidics, and cell-handling) and on integrating diverse -omics readouts into unified workflows.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will go beyond implementing existing single-cell technologies to invent, enhance, and rigorously validate new techniques. We seek candidates who are passionate about designing, prototyping, debugging, and transferring technologies to users.
What You'll Do
- Design, prototype, validate single-cell and single-nucleus multiomic assays (chemistries, barcoding schemes, capture strategies, devices, etc.).
 - Benchmark methods for throughput, sensitivity, cost and reproducibility.
 - Build process documentation, SOPs, and training materials.
 - Collaborate with scientists to align specs with biological requirements and translate needs into engineering solutions.
 - Contribute to manuscripts, methods, and presentations.

What You'll Bring
Essential -
- PhD degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
 - Demonstrated experience developing technologies to solve biological or medical challenges, from initial concept through final implementation and troubleshooting.
 - 1 year hands-on experience in one or more: assay/biochemistry development, microfluidics, or surface/polymer chemistry.
 - Evidence of independent problem-solving, rigorous experimental design and driving projects to completion.
 - Clear, professional communication and a collaborative mindset.

Nice to have -
- At least one year of programming experience in Python and/or R.
 - Next generation sequencing knowledge, and hands-on experience sequencing libraries.
 - Experience with single-cell multiomic assays or barcoding chemistries.
 - Experience with novel materials including characterization and application.
 - Experience with high-performance computing environments and Linux systems.

Compensation
The New York City, NY base pay range for a new hire in this role is $93,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
