The Opportunity

Each of the research entities is a separate limited liability company and they are subsidiaries that are wholly owned by the parent company, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, Inc.

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join the parent company Finance team in a newly created role reporting to the CZ Biohub Network Controller. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general day-to-day accounting and operations processes, including vouchering of invoices (PO and non PO backed), assisting with the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, and invoicing third-parties. The Staff Accountant must have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to investigate and troubleshoot discrepancies, as well as communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.

What You'll Do

Accounting  

  • Perform month end close activities, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned areas that may include cash, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
  • Prepare and analyze reports such as Open Purchase Orders, AP/AR Aging, etc.
  • Prepare invoices to customers and other third parties for reimbursement.
  • Perform accounts payable functions including managing the AP inbox, corresponding in a timely manner with vendors, processing invoices and obtaining required approvals; prepare payment batches.
  • Process expense reports in Concur; responsible for processing corporate credit card expense reports and reconciliations.
  • Fixed Asset Maintenance
  • Resolve discrepancies and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Analyze and spot errors and suggests ways to improve efficiency across the Network

Other

  • Provide subsidiaries with accounting support as needed
  • Prepare Annual 1099 Reporting (consolidated)
  • Prepare Quarterly Sales/Use Tax Reporting
  • Assist with annual Property Tax Filing
  • Assist with the annual audit process by providing necessary schedules as required
  • Perform other related ad-hod projects as required

What You'll Bring 

Essential –

  • Bachelor’s in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • 2 - 4 years of general accounting, fixed assets and accounts payable experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting, including solid understanding of accruals and prepaids
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, with very strong Excel skills to support month-end close and ad hoc analyses
  • Outstanding attention to detail, accuracy and procedures
  • Hands-on self-starter that can thrive in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to problem-solve and also problem-avoid
  • Impeccable ethics and integrity
  • Credible representative of the Finance team and the Biohub Network
  • Growth potential that could allow ascension within Finance or elsewhere in the Biohub Network

Nice to have - 

  • Exposure to non-profit accounting
  • Familiar with ERP systems for mid-size companies – especially experience with NetSuite One World and Coupa

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network requires all employees, regardless of work location or type of role, to provide proof of their initial COVID-19 vaccination by their start date. Compensation 

  • $92,000 - $126,500

New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity. We may also adjust this range in the future based on market data. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range during the hiring process.
