Platform Leader, Advanced Single Cell Technologies Platform (Biohub NY)
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York (CZ Biohub NY) (https://www.czbiohub.org/ny/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Columbia University, The Rockefeller University, and Yale University - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub NY itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and develop new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.
Our Vision
- We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments
- We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas
- The technologies developed at CZ Biohub facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond
Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of CZ Biohub Network and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.
The Opportunity
CZ Biohub NY is recruiting a distinguished scientist to serve as Platform Leader, a role equivalent to Principal Investigator within the CZ Biohub Network, to lead the Advanced Single Cell Technologies Platform. This individual will oversee the deployment of multi-omics single-cell technologies, ranging from single cell gene expression, protein, and epigenetic profiling to to CRISPR-mediated genes silencing/knock-out in single cells for perturb-seq profiling. The position will both oversee the development or integration of novel single-cell technologies, as well as supporting the Biohub ecosystem via collaborations with both intramural and extramural investigators. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive experience in managing and executing large-scale single-cell projects and a proven track record in collaborative scientific research and innovation. This leader will bring strategic vision to the role, guiding the development and integration of advanced genomic technologies to drive forward the NY Biohub’s ambitious goals.
For consideration, applicants should submit C.V., research statement, and 3 letters of recommendations.
What You'll Do
- Manage and maintain the Biohub single-cell multi-omics and CRISPR-based platforms, enabling access to advanced technologies for a variety of projects requiring profiling or perturbing single cells
- Develop an innovative technology roadmap by evaluating organizational strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities in multi-omics technologies, while providing access to both existing and cutting-edge single-cell technologies to Biohub NY scientists
- Lead a small team of scientists to design, develop, and implement scalable workflows and standard operating procedures to maximize the impact of the Single Cell Multi-Omics Technologies (SCMOT) platform for Biohub scientists, CZ Biohub Investigators, and collaborating faculty
- Partner with institute scientists on research, assisting with the design and execution of single-cell experiments and offering tailored technology recommendations for each project
- Lead the strategic planning, development, assessment, and acquisition of new technologies and equipment
- Serve as a key point of contact for genomics-related communication, fostering collaboration among scientists, staff, management, vendors, and other resources, and highlighting opportunities for broader applications of single-cell multi-omics and perturbational technologies
- Establish robust, scalable experimental protocols for Single Cell Multi-Omics Technologies, including those optimized for high-throughput applications
- Publish and disseminate impactful findings and the products of your research as preprints (medRxiv, bioRxiv) and/or software repositories (e.g., GitHub)
- Engage with colleagues throughout the Biohub to uphold our values of scholarly excellence, innovation, open communication, hands-on collaboration, partnership, and opportunity
- Collaborate with the CZ Biohub team to patent and license technologies resulting from your research
What You'll Bring

- PhD in a life sciences or MD with relevant research experience
- A minimum of 5 years post-doctoral experience focused on single-cell technologies
- Demonstrated publication track record in top tier journals on topics related to the scientific goals of this position
- Demonstrated leadership, track record of innovation, and ability to work collaboratively
- Supervisory or mentoring experience is a plus but not required for early-career applicants, but expected for more senior candidates
- Demonstrating a creative vision to establish a highly innovative and impactful research program.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to open science and highly aligned with the mission and values of CZ Biohub
