
Research Associate, Advanced Single Cell Technologies Platform (Biohub NY)
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York (CZ Biohub NY) (https://www.czbiohub.org/ny/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Columbia University, The Rockefeller University, and Yale University - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. The Opportunity
The Advanced Single Cell Technologies platform provides critical single cell profiling and perturbation assays, technology, and expertise to the CZ Biohub NY community. The goal of this platform is to use and develop cutting-edge single-cell technologies in collaborations related to studying human disease and the interaction of immune cells with human organs, which are foundational goals of the CZ Biohub NY.
The Research Associate will contribute to the development of new single cell multi-omics technologies for high throughput screening and will have demonstrated experience in designing, performing, and troubleshooting experiments.
What You'll Do
- Design and perform molecular biology assays including primer design, DNA/RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, PCR, etc.
- Execute benchmarking and optimizing single cell/nuclei extraction, barcoding, and library preparation methods
- Perform next generation sequencing
- Assist in identifying and recommending improvements to experimental processes and best practices
- Support development of single cell multi-omics profiling technologies for high throughput screening
- Collaborate with other scientists to achieve optimal experimental design and problem-solving
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations
What You'll Bring
Essential –
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, or related field plus 2 years of research experiences, or master’s degree with no research experience required
- At least 1 year experience of molecular and/or synthetic biology techniques
- At least 1 year experience in next generation sequencing
- Comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying the experiments
- Strong troubleshooting skills in developing and optimizing experimental protocols or technology
- Demonstrate initiative and proactive attitude to problem solving
- Ability to communicate effectively across interdisciplinary teams, including biologists, data scientists, and engineers
Nice to have –
- Familiarity with data analysis and single-cell analytic workflows
Compensation
The New York City, NY base pay range for this role is Research Associate I = $52,000.00 - $77,000.00 and Research Associate II = $67,000.00 - $99,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
