Web Project Manager, Digital Technology, Central Technology

Redwood City, CA (Hybrid)

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg to harness the power of technology to pursue some of society’s most ambitious goals — from curing or preventing all disease to transforming how students learn.

At CZI, you’ll join a deeply collaborative, mission-driven community where your work helps drive breakthroughs across our flagship nonprofit organizations, Biohub and Learning Commons. Whether enabling scientific breakthroughs via open science and AI-powered biology or strengthening the tools teachers and students rely on every day, your contributions help turn bold ideas into real-world impact.

Our teams operate at the intersection of innovation and scale, building the infrastructure, partnerships, and capabilities that allow scientists, educators, and innovators to tackle some of the most complex challenges of our time — and to do so with urgency, integrity, and optimism.

The Team

The Operations team is a key partner in enabling Biohub’s pioneering work to combine frontier AI with frontier biology to solve disease and Learning Commons’ mission to build AI infrastructure that aligns how students learn with the tools that shape their learning experiences.

Operations includes our Central Tech, Finance, Marketing & Communications, People, and Real Estate / Workplace / Events / Facilities / Security (REWFS) teams. Together, these teams create the systems, programs, and experiences that empower our partners and colleagues across Biohub and Learning Commons to drive impact.

This work requires strategic and operational rigor, creativity, and deep collaboration. Whether designing world-class employee experiences, safeguarding data and infrastructure, or shaping how we communicate our impact, Operations plays a critical role in helping deliver meaningful change at scale.

The Opportunity

Our Central Tech team provides technology and security support for CZI and our grantees. We believe that Engineering, IT and Security are most effective when in sync and learning from each other on a daily basis.  Across our three pillars of Infrastructure, Security, and Grantee & Partner Support, we enable our teams to achieve their goals faster and more securely. We leverage technology to automate manual processes, constantly innovate to optimize operations, provide first-class support, and build solutions to enable the scale and execution of our business partners' strategies and initiatives.

As a Web Project Manager, Digital Technology on the Central Tech team, you will be the operational engine behind CZI, Biohub, and Learning Commons’ portfolio of websites. Working closely with the team leads who set the roadmap direction, you’ll own the day-to-day execution that turns plans into shipped work: running sprints, coordinating agency partners and in-house developers, managing releases, and keeping stakeholders aligned and informed.

This role is for someone who thrives in the details without losing sight of the bigger picture: someone who can translate a business need into a clear ticket, run a tight sprint, anticipate a scheduling conflict before it becomes a crisis, and build the processes that make a distributed web team run smoothly. As you develop in the role, you’ll have increasing input into prioritization and team strategic decisions.

What You'll Do

Process & Operations

  • Lead sprint planning and own the bug and feature request tracking system; keep it accurate and current with inputs from all partners and stakeholders.
  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning across web projects, ensuring the development team has clear priorities, realistic deadlines, and what they need to ship.
  • Oversee day-to-day execution of web initiatives: new site builds, redesigns, content launches, CRO projects & A/B testing, QA coordination, release communication, and recurring site maintenance.
  • Apply a sharp eye for detail when reviewing developer and agency output, catching issues early and communicating feedback clearly.
  • Collaborate with the analytics and data science team to support ongoing CRO testing and site optimization.
  • Manage ongoing accessibility compliance, audits, and updates across all web properties.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the primary communication bridge between developers, marketing partners, and business stakeholders throughout all stages of a project: scoping, design, development, QA, and launch.
  • Translate non-technical project briefs into clear, actionable technical requirements for the development team.
  • Proactively surface risks, blockers, and schedule changes to relevant stakeholders before they cause surprises.

Agency & Vendor Coordination

  • Manage day-to-day coordination with external agency partners: schedules, deliverables, handoffs, and ticket queues.
  • Track agency performance against agreed timelines and quality standards; escalate concerns and contribute to SOW and renewal conversations.
  • Ensure smooth collaboration between agency partners and in-house developers, reducing friction at handoff points.
  • Manage SaaS and services contracts for team tools and resources.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in web project management, or a closely related field.
  • Strong proficiency with program/project management tools
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams with overlapping timelines and stakeholders.
  • Experience with WordPress CMS and large-scale builds or rebuilds, including hands-on use of the WordPress Block Editor.
  • When needed, alongside your program management responsibilities, you can contribute directly to web work when the team needs an extra set of capable hands (HTML/CSS/Javascript).
  • Familiarity with AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs and non-technical briefs into clear, actionable technical requirements.
  • Experience coordinating external agency or vendor partners on web projects, including tracking deliverables and managing expectations.
  • Solid knowledge of web best practices, including SEO, accessibility, and performance fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma and Photoshop.
  • Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences — clear in writing, credible in the room.
  • Highly organized, methodical, and detail-oriented, with a track record of keeping complex work on track.
  • Experience building or automating workflows with AI tools in a web development or web design context.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with headless CMS architectures.
  • If you have a portfolio of AI-assisted or vibe-coded web projects, please include it in your application.
