Role Overview:
CHAOS is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Release Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team focused on advanced radar technology. In this role, you will be a pivotal link in the product development lifecycle, responsible for orchestrating the release pipeline as we integrate complex hardware and software components of radar systems into laboratory, field, and production environments. This position will define and implement automated CI/CD process to enable stable software and firmware releases. This includes automated and manual testing, governance/compliance gates, and version traceability, while increasing system quality and customer confidence. This requires a strong technical background in SW integrated into complex systems, hands-on experience with integration and testing, and expertise in modern release methodologies.
Responsibilities:
- Release Orchestration: Design and manage the end-to-end release workflow, ensuring all software components (signal processing, UI, drivers) are synchronized and tested across multiple products. Products and infrastructure include both on-device, on-prem, air-gapped, and cloud-based environments.
- Process Automation: Automate release gates and "readiness" checks (e.g., automated unit test pass rates, security scans, and documentation generation) to reduce manual sign-off time.
- Configuration Management: Manage complex branching strategies and versioning schemes for multiple Chaos products sharing common code, ensuring 100% traceability from binary back to source code.
- Artifact Lifecycle: Oversee the promotion of builds through various stages (e.g. Development -> QA -> Golden Release) within a binary repository manager (e.g. Artifactory).
- Release Governance & Compliance: Lead the automated generation of Software Version Description (SVD) documents and Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) to meet customer requirements and standards.
- Change Control: Facilitate Release Readiness Reviews and act as a technical liaison among teams.
- Deployment Scripting: Support scripts and tools that package the software for deployment onto target hardware environments (e.g., installers, container images, or firmware bundles).
- Work full-time on-site in our office in Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s or higher Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related degree
- Release Expertise: 5+ years of professional experience specifically in Release Engineering or related fields for complex systems that include both software and hardware.
- Workflow Automation: Strong experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies (e.g. Jenkins) focusing on pipeline logic and orchestration. Experience must support a combination of on-prem/on device as well as cloud environments.
- Scripting Mastery: Proficiency in Python to automate release tasks, report generation, and system packaging.
- Version Control: Expert-level knowledge of Git, including advanced branching, merging, and tagging strategies for large, multi-team codebases and multiple repositories.
- Binary Management: Experience with artifact management tools (e.g JFrog Artifactory, Sonatype Nexus) and lifecycle policies.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate on small teams
- Solid understanding and extensive experience in software development using Linux
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with Digital Signatures and cryptographic signing of software artifacts for secure releases.
- Familiarity with DORA metrics and their application to improving release frequency and stability.
- Background in Aerospace/Defense industries where rigorous release documentation and government compliance standards are required.
- Experience deploying in air-gapped environments w/o access to internet. Some work (a subset of work is expected in these environments)
- Experience with Containers (e.g. Docker, Podman, etc.)
