Internal Medicine Physician, or Internist, is a specialist in diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of adult illnesses and health conditions. Provide comprehensive care, manage chronic diseases, and coordinate with specialists when necessary. Their responsibilities include conducting physical exams, ordering tests, prescribing medications, and counseling patients on lifestyle changes. 
 
Key Responsibilities of an Internal Medicine Physician:
  • Diagnosing and Treating:
    Internal Medicine Physicians diagnose and treat a wide range of adult medical conditions, including infections, chronic diseases (like diabetes and heart disease), and complex illnesses. 
     
Providing Comprehensive Care:
They offer ongoing care to patients, including preventative care, routine check-ups, and managing chronic conditions. 
 
Ordering and Interpreting Tests:
Internists order and interpret various diagnostic tests, such as lab tests, x-rays, and imaging scans, to aid in diagnosis. 
 
Prescribing Medications:
They prescribe medications and other treatments to manage illnesses and conditions. 
 
Counseling Patients:
Internal Medicine Physicians provide guidance and counsel to patients on lifestyle changes, preventative care, and managing their conditions. 
 
Referrals and Coordination:
When necessary, they refer patients to specialists for specialized care and coordinate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care. 
 
Managing Chronic Conditions:
They play a crucial role in managing chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension, helping patients maintain their health and quality of life. 
 
Maintaining Medical Knowledge:
Internists stay up-to-date on the latest medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care. 

Requirements 

  •  Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  •  Completion of residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology.
  •  Subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology.
  •  Board certification or eligibility in cardiac electrophysiology.
  •  Valid medical license to practice medicine.
  •  Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Salary range

$225,000 - $330,000 USD
