Hanwha Energy USA has set out to have Chariot Energy become one of the leading energy retail providers (by RCE count) within 5-years of Chariot Energy’s launch.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr Business Analyst to join our innovative and fast-paced organization. The Sr Business Analyst will serve as the key analytical partner supporting data-driven decision-making across Operations, Finance, Customer Care and Risk Management. This role focuses on transforming data from multiple enterprise systems into actionable insights that enhance billing accuracy, AR health, credit-risk monitoring, renewal retention, and fraud mitigation. The Sr Business Analyst will work cross-functionally to design dashboards, generate insights, and identify opportunities that improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and customer experience. This position requires an individual with a deep understanding of the retail energy market, especially within deregulated environments, and an expert-level knowledge of ERCOT & PJM regulations and advanced billing systems. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive billing accuracy and compliance, to identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation.

This position is an onsite role based in Houston, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to the Chariot Energy Houston office.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Data Analytics & Visualization

  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear visibility into billing performance, receivables aging, customer renewals, churn trends, and operational KPIs.
  • Extract and transform large data sets from Titanium, CRM, payment processors, and marketing systems using SQL and Python.
  • Develop automated reporting pipelines to ensure leadership has timely access to accurate operational metrics.
  • Design and monitor key metrics such as:
    • Billing accuracy & cycle completion rates
    • AR delinquency buckets, DSO, and collection recovery rates
    • Deposit trends, credit exposure, and charge-off risk
    • Customer retention and renewal of conversion rates
    • Fraud detection and abnormal enrollment or payment activity
    • Stand up parallel-run variance reporting (pre- and post-cutover) for billing and settlements: usage to bill, rate application, taxes/fees, securitization, deposits, AR aging, payment posting, write-offs, refunds, and adjustments— with alerting on materiality thresholds.
    • Create data reconciliation packs: customer/account counts, premise/service IDs, contract terms, pricing products, deposit balances, payments/tokens, credit limits, and collections status—before/after snapshots with tie-outs.

Operational & Business Insights

  • Partner with Customer Care, Credit/Collections, Billing, Finance, and Sales teams to identify performance gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide actionable insights to reduce bad debt, unstatemented charges, and billing disputes, and to improve collection efficiency.
  • Analyze renewal, churn, and customer lifecycle data to inform retention strategy and campaign targeting.
  • Evaluate fraud trends across enrollments, payments, and account activities, identifying data-driven prevention mechanisms.
  • Support leadership with forecasting, budget variance, and revenue/margin analysis based on real-time Titanium data feeds.

Data Governance & Automation

  • Establish and enforce data integrity and consistency standards for reports and integrations.
  • Collaborate with IT and ESG teams to enhance Titanium’s data extract processes and ensure accurate mapping to reporting environments.
  • Document data models, transformation logic, and KPI definitions to maintain transparency across departments.
  • Implement automated ETL processes in Python or SQL to streamline reporting frequency and accuracy.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal leaders to define KPIs, prioritize reporting enhancements, and support key business initiatives (e.g., AR improvement, renewal strategy, churn reduction, fraud controls).
  • Present findings and dashboards to senior leadership, ensuring clarity and actionable interpretation of data.
  • Support regulatory and compliance reporting where data-driven validations are required (e.g., billing disputes, credit deposits, customer notifications).
  • Adhere to Retail Market Guide protocols as set forth by ERCOT, PJM, NYISO and NEPOOL.
  • Establish and maintain positive business relationships with internal customers and key stakeholders.
  • Achieve excellence by delivering on key performance indicators (KPI’s).

 

 REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Analytical- Proven problem-solving capability with strong analytical skills including statistical analysis,

  • Effective Communication- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Agility- Demonstrate willingness to modify position as needed to meet the needs of the business.

 

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, or Information Systems required.
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years of analytics or business intelligence experience or financial operations in retail energy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, custom visuals, and drill-through design).
  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL with proven ability to write complex, optimized queries across large data sets.
  • Experience with Python for data transformation, automation, or anomaly detection preferred.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version-control tools for managing code and BI assets preferred.
  • Strong command of Excel for data analysis and ad-hoc reporting (pivot tables, lookups, advanced formulas).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply information-driven approaches to solve critical business questions in a practical manner with tangible results, while demonstrating flexibility to take consultative approach in ambiguous business environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into insights that drive measurable improvements in billing accuracy, credit-risk control, customer retention, and fraud reduction.
  • Experience in the deregulated energy market, primarily ERCOT, PJM, NYISO and NEPOOL
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with experience working across operations, finance, and IT functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify trends, analyze data, and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Eligible to work in the USA for any employer without sponsorship.

 

COMPENSATION: $102,000 - $130,000 salary
