About the Role
CharterUP is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team that designs, builds, and supports customer-facing software for our two-sided marketplace. We're seeking a strong people leader who prioritizes delivering high-impact products that truly benefit our customers. In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering leaders, product managers, and developers to build scalable systems and drive key initiatives across Web Applications, REST APIs, Mobile Apps, Data Engineering, and DevOps in support of our rapidly growing business.

Reports to: VP of Engineering
Location: This position is based in Austin, TX (Hybrid: Monday, Wednesday, Friday in-office).
What You’ll Do
- Set Team Direction: Define and communicate team goals aligned with organizational priorities; ensure strategic alignment across teams.
- Performance & Growth Management: Establish clear expectations for team members, provide regular feedback, and support career development through coaching and 1:1s.
- Technical Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and evolve the technical vision and roadmap to meet future business needs.
- System Design & Coding: Lead system design initiatives, develop code to solve complex problems, and ensure the creation of high-quality architectures.
- Code Quality & Collaboration: Review code for best practices, and partner with leadership on organizational design, resource planning, and prioritization.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven leadership experience: 4+ years managing technical teams, including recruiting, mentoring, and performance management.
- Strong technical background: 8+ years of hands-on coding experience in customer-facing products using languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript.
- Cloud and AI infrastructure expertise: Experience building and operating large-scale systems on platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including developing agentic systems and driving AI-powered solutions to improve developer workflows and business operations.
- Collaborative, people-first leadership style: Focused on team growth, cross-functional communication, and effective handling of customer escalations.
- Skilled in remote and distributed team environments: Working effectively with engineering, product, and design teams across time zones.

Compensation:
$180,000 - $250,000 USD
