6th Grade ESL Teacher

Job Summary:
To perform in such a way that he/she facilitates, stimulates, and guides the learning of students and interrelates in a professional manner with other teachers and community members for the purpose of remediating and assisting students with language problems as a results of a second language background.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as a liaison between the student and other teachers, staff members and family
- Recommends entry and exit of students from the ESL program based on multiple criteria established by the school
- Responsible for notifying parents of a student’s entrance and exit from the ESL program within the state-mandated time period
- Annually administers the state-mandated ACCESS for English Language Learners (ELL) assessment to all ESL students
- Tracks the performance of former ESL students for a minimum of two years using appropriate forms to ensure continued student success
- Maintains and communicates accurate and up-to-date data on all students
- Identifies a continuum of long and short-term course objectives consistent with the school approved curriculum
- Plans, prepares, and delivers lessons for students based on available research of “best practices” in the field of ESL
- Selects and/or modifies appropriate learning materials from appropriate sources (texts, supplements, AV materials, etc.) and shares with regular classroom teachers
- Consults and collaborates with classroom teachers to provide mainstream support for ESL students
- Maintains ongoing communication with the parents of ESL students
- Productively interacts with classroom teachers and child study team members on a regular basis to monitor the classroom program and needs of ESL and ELL students
- Responsible for the review and updating of the ESL/ELL curriculum on an annual basis
- Participates in school-wide in-servicing as it relates to ESL and bilingual education
- Complies with policies, regulations and procedures of Chester Community Charter School; communicates effectively with parents and work collaboratively with staff
- Displays high-level professional conduct and image at all times; establishes and maintains an acceptable attendance record; and participates in extra-curricular activities and/or leadership roles outside the classroom
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university
- Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check Clearance
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- FBI Criminal Background Clearance
Certificates/Licenses:
- Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist Certificate (PK-12)
Demonstrated Knowledge of:
- The principles, practices and methods of grade level education when teaching ESL/ELL learners
- Familiar with all state regulations as they pertain to ESL, as stated in the Pennsylvania Administrative Code and related laws and regulations
- The contents, materials, methodologies and practices utilized within ESL/ELL education at the respective grade level
- Critical thinking methodologies and problem-solving techniques
- Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards
- Response to Interventions (RTII)
- Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
Demonstrated Ability to:
- Assess students’ needs and learning styles and to design appropriate differentiated instruction to meet their needs while providing appropriate ESL/ELL programming
- Use and apply simulations and technological innovations in the classroom in pursuit of instructional strategies
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, supportive staff, parents and students
