Director of Finance
Summary of Role:
The Director of Finance is responsible for maintaining Chip City’s financial infrastructure and technology and delivering comprehensive financial reporting and analyses to support daily operations. This includes building and maintaining cash flow and budget forecast models, preparing accurate financial statements, and leading the annual budget process. This role will manage outside firms responsible for daily accounting and month end close procedures, corporate and state and local tax compliance, annual business registrations, and annual audits/reviews as required by the board. Excellent bank, executive, and board communication skills are key.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work directly with a full-service accounting firm to ensure books and records are accurately maintained and books closed timely in Restaurant365. This will require having a strong understanding of multi-location stock counts, inventory valuations, DSS, prime reporting, and more.
- Own company’s financial systems and infrastructure (Ramp cards, banking relationships, external finance and accounting service providers)
- Manage company’s lending relationship and provide monthly financial reports to support covenant compliance
- Create and deliver monthly board of director financial updates
- Partner with the CEO and management team to develop, refine, and monitor annual budgets.
- Work with full-service accounting and internal tech resources to automate and manage weekly prime reporting to include by-location breakdowns of revenue, COGS, labor, waste.
- Manage external accounting teams that prepare federal, state, and local tax returns (ex. Annual 1065, sales and use tax, and annual business registrations)
- Maintain other regulatory compliance with state agencies regarding business licenses and permits as needed.
- Ensure full compliance during any required audits or reviews by preparing required documentation and supporting materials.
- Manage ASC842 accounting compliance
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
- Proficiency managing the month end close process in Restaurant365
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
- Strong executive communication
- Proficiency navigating various business intelligence tools like Ingest, PowerBI, etc.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in multi-location retail, hospitality, or consumer-facing businesses
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Restaurant365
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Ability to lead a first-year audit or review
- Skilled in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting in Excel
- Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, including sales tax and partnership tax structures.
- Familiarity with Ramp for corporate card management
KPIs / Outcomes:
- Deliver timely, accurate financial reporting and analysis to support lending compliance, operations, and executive decision-making.
- Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts with high accuracy and clear variance explanations.
- Teach and enhance the financial literacy of retail management
- Ensure full compliance with tax, licensing, and regulatory requirements while maintaining audit readiness.
- Strengthen internal cash controls and drive process improvements that enhance financial efficiency and operational performance.
