Deputy Chief Investment Officer

The Deputy Chief Investment Officer (Deputy CIO) plays a critical leadership role within the investment team of an organization, supporting the Chief Investment Officer in managing and overseeing the company’s investment strategies, portfolios, and operations. The Deputy CIO will ensure the effective execution of investment policies, fosters innovation, and provides strategic direction to achieve Choreo’s financial objectives, including internal and external messaging to advisors and clients. The Deputy CIO will report to the Chief Investment Officer and may act as their delegate in their absence. This role collaborates closely with the investment team and senior management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the CIO in developing and implementing the organization’s investment vision, strategy, and policies.
- Oversee and monitor the performance of investment portfolios and solutions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s objectives. Participate in asset allocation decisions, rebalancing, and risk management processes.
- Enhance research efforts to identify new investment opportunities, monitor market trends, and evaluate macroeconomic factors, and provide actionable insights for investment decision-making.
- Mentor and supervise investment staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and high performance. Delegate responsibilities and coordinate cross-functional teams as needed.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board members, clients, and partners.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, and high ethical standards. Identify and mitigate potential risks in investment strategies and operations.
- Support the CIO in overseeing day-to-day investment operations.
- Drive initiatives to improve investment processes, systems, and tools. Encourage adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency and performance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field required
- Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CAIA) preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive investment management experience, including leadership roles within institutional or asset management organizations
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities
- Deep understanding of investment markets, asset classes, and risk management techniques
- Strong writing capabilities as well as presentation skills are essential
- Familiarity with investment analytics platforms, financial modeling, and portfolio management software
- Willingness to travel 10-25% of working time for internal and client meetings as well as events
