Our mission is to improve the lives of people and communities by democratizing technology development in health and research.
About the Role
We are looking for a mission-driven Vice President of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering organization during a period of rapid growth and transformation. As VP of Engineering, you’ll serve as the operational and people leadership counterpart to our CTO, who is focused on product vision and innovation IP.
You’ll inherit a strong engineering foundation with talented ICs and Staff Engineers, but minimal formal management layers.
Your core mission: uplevel the Platform team to support our growing App Delivery team, reduce execution risk, and create structure without sacrificing innovation speed.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in complex environments, has scaled engineering teams in startup/growth stages, and is eager to shape org design, technical excellence, and culture from the inside.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Leadership:
- Partner with the CTO to co-own engineering execution and org design across Platform, Delivery, and Innovation
- Translate business goals into clear technical direction and sustainable team structure
- Create and drive engineering-wide best practices around quality, velocity, and reliability
- Team Management & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of ~15+ engineers, including Staff Engineers, QA, and DevOps
- Develop leadership within the team (especially Staff ICs), and introduce scalable, lightweight management structures
- Coach engineers of all levels, balancing support for both senior systems thinkers and junior developers
- Execution & Process Improvement
- Implement agile processes that support a dual-track workflow: predictable Delivery alongside high-risk Innovation
- Establish accountability, goals, and performance metrics without overburdening lean teams
- Own and refine the SDLC, from sprint planning to release and maintenance
- Platform & Delivery Alignment:
- Ensure our Platform Engineering team delivers tools, systems, and infrastructure that accelerate our Delivery team’s work
- Act as a force-multiplier across teams, breaking silos and enabling cross-functional collaboration
- Prioritize internal developer experience and technical debt reduction alongside new feature delivery
- Support Innovation to Scale:
- Help identify, recruit, and develop systems-level engineers who can work directly with the CTO on innovation IP
- Build guardrails that enable experimentation without compromising platform stability
The Experience You’ll Need
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles
- Proven success scaling engineering orgs at startups or growth-stage companies, including dual-track product vs. platform/infrastructure responsibilities
- Experience coaching teams through ambiguity, rapid growth, and limited resources
- Strong background in modern cloud infrastructure, software design, and scalable systems
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, agile practices, and regulated industries (healthcare is a plus)
- Excellent people leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor, delegate, and build healthy, autonomous teams
- A deep respect for innovation, balanced with operational excellence and delivery accountability
Why Join Chorus?
- You’ll partner closely with a visionary CTO and have real influence over org structure, strategy, and delivery
- You’ll help shape how cutting-edge healthcare tech gets built and delivered
- You’ll be part of a mission-driven company committed to health equity, community impact, and ethical innovation
