Lead Animal Care Technician

RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Lead Animal Care Technician, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the animal facilities and program and for training junior animal care technicians:
- Perform cage changing, breeding, colony management, and husbandry duties
- Perform daily health observations and monitor the condition of research animals; ensure all rooms are observed daily to monitor the health of the animals and report negative findings quickly
- Ensure proper maintenance of animal records to include room logs, health reports, cage card labels, cage changing records, animal census, and other necessary records
- Provide custodial care, fresh feed, and fresh water to animals according to standard operating procedures
- Inspect the animal holding areas and support facilities to ensure they are meeting/exceeding regarding animal health, facilities conditions, environmental parameters and security
- Assembling and preparing animal cages/racks and related equipment for cage change outs, or newly arriving animals according to instructions; receive animal shipments and complete required documentation
- Ensures all areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied
- Assist/provide input to the ACF manager regarding personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personal actions training and development, disciplinary actions, and providing feedback and direction on performance to assist in preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews
- Serve as a role model and ensures accurate, high-quality work and adherence to nChroma’s policies, practices, and procedures
- May occasionally be required to work on weekends, holidays, and off hours and work in the event of a disaster, or weather-related event, if necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent
- Four+ years animal husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility
- Bbility to work directly with animals (mice only), with no preexisting allergies to animals, hair, or dander
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) or higher or ability to successfully achieve ALAT certification within one (1) year of hire/promotion
- Dosing, blood collection, and necropsy skills preferred, but not required
