Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Payments Core

Remote

About Us

Circle is building the world’s leading all-in-one platform for online communities. We make it possible for creators, coaches, educators, and businesses to bring together their audience with engaging discussions, live streams, events, chat, courses, and payments — all in one place, all under their own brand.

We’re proud to be a fully remote company of around 180 (and growing!) team members from 30+ countries around the world. We seek exceptional individuals around the world, set them up to do the best work of their lives, and in turn, create a meaningful impact in their own lives. We don't track hours, but we do manage for high expectations very closely. We collaborate across time zones, are highly async, and like to document a lot.

Twice a year, we bring the whole company together in beautiful places around the world for our company offsites. So far, we’ve hosted offsites in Turkey, Portugal, Mexico, Thailand, Colombia, Italy, Ireland, and more, with still more to come!

About the role

We’re looking for a seasoned full-stack engineer to help evolve and expand Circle’s core monetization features. As part of our Payments Core team, you’ll work on the product surface that powers how community-based businesses sell — from high-converting paywalls and high-margin upsells to affiliate tools and member access controls.

This role is all about building great purchasing experiences: paywalls that extend a community’s brand, order bumps that let members add more to their membership, analytics that show how the business is performing, and subscription tools that help communities retain their members. You’ll ship work that directly supports the sale of digital memberships, courses, and content — globally and at scale.

Circle is built for serious community businesses. That means we’re looking for someone who understands payments, monetization mechanics, and what it takes to make selling feel seamless — across devices, currencies, and use cases.

If you’re excited about crafting polished monetization features, working with payment gateways, and helping creators turn communities into businesses, this could be the perfect fit!

What you'll be doing

  • Own and evolve core monetization features — including paywalls, upsells, affiliate tools, subscription settings, and member access
  • Build polished, high-converting purchasing experiences that help communities sell digital memberships, courses, and content at scale
  • Extend checkout and paywall functionality to support global audiences, multiple currencies, and diverse business models
  • Work across our Ruby on Rails backend and React front-end to ship high-quality features quickly and safely
  • Integrate with payment gateways using existing infrastructure to deliver seamless, reliable buying flows
  • Collaborate with product and design from early exploration to launch
  • Improve performance, code quality, and dev experience as part of your daily work

What you'll need to be successful

  • Strong alignment with our values, find our values on our career page if you haven’t read up on them yet
  • You are proficient in English (spoken, written, and reading) at a CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.
  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining complex full-stack web applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Ruby on Rails, MySQL/PostgreSQL, ReactJS, TypeScript, CSS/SCSS, and TailwindCSS.
  • A track record of building clean, high-quality interfaces with attention to detail and pixel-level precision.
  • Hands-on experience integrating payments-related features in production environments.
  • A product mindset — curiosity about the “why” behind what you’re building, and a focus on user outcomes.
  • Comfort operating with autonomy in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to shift focus as business needs evolve.
  • Experience working on a fully distributed team.

Bonus points

  • Experience integrating with payment providers (e.g., Stripe, PayPal).
  • Familiarity with checkout flows, payment processing, subscription lifecycles, and monetization architecture.
  • Background working with community platforms, creator tools, or other user-first SaaS products

$130,000 - $140,000 USD per year
