An Eligibility Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department, under the Community Action Partners (CAP) division. CAP provides a wide range of social services to low-income households throughout Tarrant County. These services include, but are not limited to, utility assistance, rental and mortgage assistance, case management, employment support, and referrals to partner agencies. The program is dedicated to helping families achieve long-term financial stability and increased self-sufficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of administrative and client contact experience in social services or related programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting eligibility interviews in social services setting
- Proficiency with case management systems, data entry, and digital file tracking (e.g. Neighborly Software and Microsoft Suite).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
The Eligibility Specialist job responsibilities include:
- Attend scheduled intake sessions and assist with processing walk-in or appointment-based clients
- Intake applications and determine applicant eligibility for assigned human services or employment and training program areas
- Receive and process initial or reactivated applications, reviewing documentation to ensure completeness and compliance with program requirements
- Explain program guidelines and provide informational materials to clients
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes for all client interactions and updates in the case management system
- Provide referrals and connect clients to other service providers based on identified needs
- Monitor recertification timelines and notify clients of required follow-up actions
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
