Field Engineer

As a Field Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in designing and delivering impactful local roadway and state DOT projects. You’ll collaborate with experienced project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure every project is executed with precision and excellence. From solving complex challenges to overseeing high-profile infrastructure projects, this position offers a chance to make a real difference in the communities we serve.
This role is based in Davis, Weber, and Cache Counties and offers a clear growth path to becoming a Resident Engineer—we’re looking for someone ready to grow with us.
What You’ll Do
- Bring Designs to Life: Interpret engineering plans and specifications to ensure flawless execution in the field.
- Drive Quality & Compliance: Oversee quality control processes and ensure adherence to company standards and client expectations.
- Be a Leader: Train, supervise, and coordinate field inspection staff to deliver high-quality results.
- Solve Real-World Challenges: Resolve design errors, engineer creative solutions, and manage on-site contractor activities.
- Keep Projects on Track: Review submittals, prepare cost estimates, manage change orders, and monitor project budgets.
- Document Success: Maintain accurate field records, technical reports, and project documentation.
- Collaborate & Communicate: Work closely with contractors, clients, stakeholders, and team members to ensure seamless project execution.
- Drive Compliance: Ensure all projects meet relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Education & Certification: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, successful completion of the FE exam, and has EIT certification.
- Experience: 1-5 years of experience in highway/DOT projects and a strong background in civil engineering practices.
- Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, attention to detail, and proficiency in tools like Microsoft Excel and CADD.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with materials testing, land surveying, and construction inspection.
- Team Player: A collaborative mindset with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver's license and the ability to pass a background check and driving record review.
Nice-to-Have (or Will Help You Get)
- UDOT CEM and partnering certifications within the first month of hire.
- Experience with UDOT design and construction standards.
- Knowledge of UDOT software systems like ProjectWise and MasterWorks.
- At least 24 months of experience with technical infrastructure projects, especially DOT-related work.
