IT Support Engineer
Role Overview
As a versatile IT Support Engineer, you serve as the critical bridge between foundational operational support and high-level strategic implementation. You are responsible for the health, security, and integrity of the enterprise environment, demonstrating the agility to handle a broad spectrum of challenges—from resolving day-to-day user needs to spearheading complex system-wide architectural improvements. Acting with high autonomy, you manage technical workflows, implement robust security controls, and deliver reliable support while strictly adhering to enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and sustain proactive security compliance measures as a top priority, ensuring continuous alignment with CMMC and NIST 800-171 requirements.
- Maintain and enforce Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles across enterprise security platforms as a core operational priority.
- Collaborate on system-wide architectural improvements and long-term strategic planning alongside standard infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Execute standardized change management protocols and operational procedures to guarantee infrastructure stability and security.
- Provide comprehensive technical support and develop high-quality documentation to facilitate proactive maintenance and standardized service delivery.
Core Operational Support
- Technical Support: Provide first-level support for hardware and software issues.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to systems, networks, and applications.
- Ticket Management: Handle support tickets, escalate when necessary, and ensure timely resolution.
- Documentation: Maintain records of issues and resolutions for future reference and continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows using scripting languages like PowerShell and Bash to streamline CI/CD pipelines and operational efficiency.
- Configure, optimize, and secure enterprise network infrastructure, including the management of advanced routing, switching, and firewall protocols.
- Strengthen enterprise security posture through proactive threat hunting, regular vulnerability assessments, and the enhancement of incident response protocols.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical escalations, providing rapid resolution for end-user issues and system incidents across all service levels.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in managing and securing enterprise systems within a Zero Trust framework.
- Strong understanding of NIST 800-171 and CMMC compliance frameworks.
- Expertise in maintaining high-quality operational documentation and technical SOPs.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for secure enterprise-grade hardware and software platforms.
- Understanding of DevOps practices, including automation scripting and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
- Advanced proficiency in network administration, focusing on optimization and security of routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity operations, specifically in threat hunting, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Demonstrated experience in rapid diagnostic and resolution of end-user technical inquiries, ensuring high availability and user productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
- Proven experience in security-focused IT support within a compliant enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage systems and processes independently while meeting rigorous security standards.
Work Location
Work Location: Full-time, on-site role in Herndon, VA and Columbia, MD.
Salary Range: $67,000 - $202,000
