The Role:
You will be responsible for managing payroll and benefits as part of the People Operations function. This includes overseeing end-to-end payroll processes, administering employee benefits, partnering closely with the Finance, Tax, and external vendor teams, and ensuring accurate and timely payroll and benefits delivery for a growing FinTech company. The role requires a strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax and benefits regulations to ensure compliance and accurate reporting. As a member of the People team, you will serve as the first point of contact for employees with questions or issues related to payroll and benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and administer payroll processes across our locations while ensuring accurate data and maintaining compliance with local tax laws.
- Partner with the People team, Finance, Tax, Legal and other teams to ensure that payroll is aligned to legal requirements, tax laws, accounting practices and overall total rewards.
- Research and advise the firm on payroll requirements in current locations as well as locations where we may need to open a new legal entity.
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures as well as internal controls to prevent unnecessary risk.
- Administer and maintain payroll systems and review existing policies and processes to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities to develop creative solutions.
- Be the primary resource for all payroll related inquiries from our employees from simple questions to complex..
- Lead payroll reporting for internal and external needs and processes (ie year-end) and ensure we have the correct information to issue W-2s.
- Advise the Chief People Officer on new legislation and impact to payroll.
- Manage relationships with external vendors.
- When coverage or backup is needed, help the broader People Operations team in areas such as processing and managing benefits for our US and global employees.
- Work on other ad hoc projects as assigned.
- Work with our Chief People Officer to create and maintain competitive benefits programs that keep Clear Street current in the market.
- Review existing policies and processes to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities to develop creative solutions.
- Lead the annual benefits plan design, open enrollment process and all related communications to employees.
- Manage and administer all employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee perks.
- Manage all relationships with benefits vendors to escalate issues, problem solve and ensure client service standards are met.
Requirements:
- At least eight (8) years of experience in related payroll manager roles.
- Experience with international payroll is a plus.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems is required, experience with UKG Ready is highly preferred.
- Prior experience managing third party vendors
- Must have strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management, as well as having an ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A natural curiosity to inquire about existing processes and systems and a desire to learn and understand all of the background necessary to make informed decisions on change is required.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize for dealing with competing priorities.
- Experience with benefits is required, included knowledge of health and welfare benefit programs including healthcare, life, and wellbeing benefits.
- Prior experience managing third party vendors (medical, dental, 401K, commuter benefits, etc…) is required.
We Offer:
The Base Salary Range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000. This range is representative of the starting base salaries for this role at Clear Street. Where a candidate falls in this range will be based on job related factors such as relevant experience, skills, and location. This range represents Base Salary only, which is just one element of Clear Street's total compensation. The range stated does not include other factors of total compensation such as bonuses or equity.
