Android Engineer

Umeå, Sweden

About Clear Street:

Clear Street is modernizing the brokerage ecosystem. Founded in 2018, Clear Street is a diversified financial services firm replacing the legacy infrastructure used across capital markets.

We started from scratch by building a completely cloud-native clearing and custody system designed for today’s complex, global market. Our platform is fully integrated with central clearing houses and exchanges to support billions in trading volume per day. We’ve agonized about our data model abstractions, created horizontal scalability, and crafted thoughtful APIs. All so we can provide a best-in-class experience for our clients.

By combining highly-skilled product and engineering talent with seasoned finance professionals, we’re building the essentials to compete in today’s fast-paced markets.

The Team:

We started with a small group of experienced engineers and the team has significantly increased in size to a team of 30+ with plans to continue to grow.  The team was formed to execute on Clear Street’s growth strategy of expanding our products and services to reach more asset classes and geographies. We work closely with engineering and product teams based in New York.

Members of the team have the unique opportunity to be part of a growth journey, building a technology stack from scratch, and making a big impact on the financial market. In this role, an individual will work in conjunction with team members in Sweden and NY to build applications for our Securities Finance and Futures businesses, the Execution Management, Risk as well as Custody and Clearing systems.

Join us and be part of a collaborative, productive and supportive team that values office work over remote work.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Android Engineer to join our Swedish Engineering team. You will play an important role in shaping Clear Street’s evolving mobile platform, contributing to the design and development of our Android application as we expand our mobile presence. This is an opportunity to influence architectural decisions, help set best practices, and ensure our Android experience meets the high standards we aim for across Clear Street’s products.

You will work closely with Clear Street Studio, our product design and research team, as well as our iOS engineers, to deliver a cohesive and high-quality mobile experience across platforms. Collaboration, thoughtful design, and platform parity will be central to your work.

In addition, you will partner with engineering and business stakeholders to design new mobile solutions, integrate with backend systems, and deliver a world-class user experience. While Android development is your primary focus, we value engineers who are comfortable working end-to-end, with exposure to backend services, data, and infrastructure.

You Bring:
  • Hands-on professional experience developing and maintaining Android applications with high requirements on performance, usability, and reliability
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, and experience with Jetpack Compose and the Android SDK
  • Experience integrating apps with REST APIs and collaborating with backend teams
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on design consistency and user experience
  • Experience supporting and monitoring production applications using modern tools
  • Motivation to learn, curiosity to explore new technologies, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of financial markets, asset classes, and the technical demands of building financial systems is valued
  • Experience mentoring others or leading initiatives is considered an advantage

Tech Stack:
Required experience:
  • Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Android Studio, REST APIs
Preferred experience:
  • Clear Street’s technology stack: Golang, Python, Java, React, AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Docker
  • Readiness to learn and collaborate across the stack is important
Nice to have:
  • CI/CD for mobile (Gradle, Bitrise, GitHub Actions)
  • Play Store deployment and release management
  • Automated testing (JUnit, Espresso, Compose testing)

Why Join:

You’ll join a skilled team helping to grow and mature Clear Street’s Android experience, working in close partnership with designers, researchers, and iOS engineers. You’ll have meaningful influence over the direction of our Android app, including architecture, design patterns, and the user experience as the product evolves.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to join a small and growing team of good people, where you can make a difference.
  • A new high-quality code base with little technical debt and room to build new services and features.
  • An environment that embraces the utility of a DevOps oriented culture and combines it with a focus on CI/CD methodology.
  • A meritocratic philosophy that champions collaboration.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and perks.

Our top priority is our people. We’re continuously investing in a culture that promotes collaboration. We help each other through challenges and celebrate each other's successes. We believe that modern workplaces succeed by virtue of having high-performance workforces that are diverse — in ideas, in cultures, and in experiences. We put in the effort to make such a workplace a daily reality and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
