
Databricks Administrator
The Databricks System Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of our Databricks environment. This position involves the comprehensive maintenance, strategic management, and ongoing optimization of the platform. The administrator is vital in supporting data scientists, engineers, and analysts by guaranteeing high availability, robust security, and peak performance of the Databricks platform.
1. Platform Administration
• Cluster Management:
Create, configure, monitor, and optimize clusters.
Manage cluster policies and permissions.
• Workspace Configuration:
Set up and organize workspaces.
Manage notebooks, libraries, and assets within the workspace.
2. Security and Access Control:
• Identity and Access Management (IAM):
Configure and enforce user roles and permissions.
Integrate Databricks with identity providers (e.g., Azure AD, AWS IAM).
• Data Access:
Set up data access controls for secure handling of sensitive data.
Ensure compliance with organizational security policies.
3. Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
• Monitor system performance, utilization, and costs.
• Optimize job execution and cluster configurations to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks.
4. Automation and Scripting:
• Automate routine administrative tasks using Databricks CLI or APIs.
• Advise on the development of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) scripts for Databricks environments
(e.g., using Terraform), based on in-depth knowledge of the platform).
5. Compliance and Governance:
• Monitor and audit usage for compliance with organizational policies.
• Ensure logging and monitoring are configured for traceability.
• Assist with implementing governance frameworks (e.g., Unity Catalog).
6. Troubleshooting and Support:
• Investigate and resolve incidents or issues reported by users.
• Collaborate with Databricks support for unresolved issues.
• Document resolutions and create knowledge base articles for common problems.
