Contract Accounting Generalist (Remote, US)
About the Role:
The Accounting Generalist Contractor plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and efficient accounting operations. This position supports month-end close, assists with audits and compliance, and contributes to process improvements across multiple entities. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Accounting Generalist helps maintain financial integrity, streamline workflows, and enhance overall efficiency.
This is a contract position for an estimated 4-6 months, with the possibility to extend. This contract also has the possibility to convert to FTE, depending on business needs and personal performance.
This is a fully remote role (in the United States) and will report to the Manager of Accounting.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist in month-end closing duties across all entities, including bank reconciliations, fixed asset depreciation, prepaid amortization, debt and interest accruals, revenue accruals, intercompany accounts reconciliation review.
- Review and analyze P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Prepare monthly financial reporting packages.
- Assist with financial audits, tax filings, and other compliance audits.
- Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist in establishing new processes to enhance efficiency.
- Participate in projects and initiatives such as maintaining current financials, developing templates for depreciation/amortization schedules, and establishing company credit card policies.
- Support month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and perform variance analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial operations and improve accounting workflows.
- Assist in audit preparation and compliance reporting as needed.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
Key Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required
- 2+ years of professional experience in accounting, including full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Advanced skills in Excel, QuickBooks Online or other accounting software
- Strong experience in system implementation and passionate about accounting process improvement
- CPA certification or progress toward certification preferred.
- Experience in the healthcare insurance industry is nice to have.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- High level of adaptability, attention to detail, and dependability.
- Willingness to share knowledge and coach teammates
- Ability to work well in a team environment, contributing to a positive workplace culture.
- Proficiency in GAAP principles and strong general ledger knowledge.
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with process automation and system implementations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluent in English; Bilingual a plus.
- Legally authorized to work in the US.
The compensation for this position depends on experience, skills, qualifications, location, and competencies. We are a remote first organization with employees in 25 states and 5 countries and growing! $30 - $40 USD
