Managing Director, Market Fundamentals & Structuring (San Francisco, CA)
Leverage advanced knowledge of marketing and finance principles to lead the analysis of the energy markets across North America, maintain up-to-date market models, and develop comprehensive market views and forecasts detailing market trends in energy, basis, capacity, renewable energy, and ancillary services. These views and forecasts are key inputs for investment decisions for our onshore/offshore wind, solar, and storage projects our Company chooses to invest in. Will also be involved in overseeing financial hedging activities and similar business development corporate strategies for our Company. Specific duties include:
- Build and maintain internal capabilities to analyze market risks within the energy landscape across North America including policies, market rules, power grid, and technology trends and their impact on renewable assets.
- Generate comprehensive market views on renewable/storage demand, market conditions, competitiveness, growth drivers, revenue streams, risk factors, technology innovation, and strategic opportunities.
- Develop and maintain price forecasts and revenue models used to run market simulations, valuations, and performance analyses.
- Lead development of quantitative methodologies to value various revenue streams for storage assets both short and long term.
- Collaborate with Business Development, Origination, Asset Management, External Affairs, and other internal teams to support various projects by performing revenue, basis, curtailment, negative price protection, PPA, risk, and policy impact analyses.
- Lead the internal review and adoption of forward price curves and provide accessibility and transparency of assumptions to internal stakeholders.
- Cultivate an inclusive and empowered culture within Energy Management team and Clearway.
- Build trusted relationships through effective coordination and communication with internal/ external stakeholders.
- Engage staff in their professional development, providing direct support and enlisting other resources where needed.
- Supervises 8 professionals with titles, including: Sr Associate, Fundamental & Transmission Modeling; Sr Manager, Fundamental & Transmission Modeling; Sr Associate, BESS Modeling; and Director, Structured Pricing and BESS Modeling. All within the the Specialty Occupation of 13-2051.00 -Financial and Investment Analysts.
May telecommute 100% of the workweek from any U.S. location.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, or closely related quantitative field, plus eight (8) years of experience performing energy trading, risk management, market fundamentals and development. Experience, which may be gained concurrently, must include the following:
- Eight (8) years of experience building teams and internal capabilities to analyze market risks within the energy landscape across North America including policies, market rules, power grid, and technology trends and their impact to renewable assets.
- Eight (8) years of experience generating comprehensive market views on renewable/storage demand, market conditions, competitiveness, growth drivers, revenue streams, risk factors, technology innovation, and strategic opportunities for greenfield development and M&A.
- Eight (8) years of experience developing and maintaining price forecasts and revenue models used to run market simulations, valuations, and performance analyses.
- Eight (8) years of experience leading the development activities of internal storage modeling capabilities for both short- and long-term energy storage projects.
- Seven (7) years of experience leading multi-functional teams within the energy storage sector.
