Who We Are Looking For

Clearway’s Market Fundamentals team develops analytical tools and long-term models used to forecast wholesale power prices and support strategic decisionmaking across the company’s development and investment pipeline. The team works at the intersection of energy markets, data science, and renewable energy economics—providing insights that shape how Clearway invests in and operates renewable and conventional generation assets. 

The Market Fundamentals Intern will support the development, automation, and enhancement of Clearway’s power price forecasting models. This role includes hands-on data analysis, maintaining and improving data pipelines, and helping implement automation to streamline modeling and reporting workflows. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and eager to learn how energy markets work while contributing directly to high-impact modeling efforts. 

This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning on June 1, 2026. 

We are looking for students completing a bachelor’s or starting a master’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.  

Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional & market experience. At Clearway, you’ll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort.

This is a hybrid role that will be based in the San Diego office. Our hybrid policy is that employees are in-office on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

What You'll Be Doing

The Market Fundamentals intern’s primary responsibilities will include: 

  • Support the team’s price forecasting through data collection, processing, and analysis.  
  • Assist in developing and refining datasets used in fundamentals-based modeling of supply, demand, fuel prices, and system constraints.  
  • Contribute to automation initiatives, including building scripts, tools, or dashboards to reduce manual effort and improve data accessibility.  
  • Perform quality checks and validation of market data and model outputs.  
  • Document workflows, assumptions, and code to ensure transparency and repeatability.  
  • Collaborate with analysts and modelers to support adhoc research into market trends, policy changes, and system dynamics. 

The Market Fundamental Intern will be assigned to an individual project and will present results to the team and leadership at the end of the internship on August 4th. 

What You'll Bring

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.  
  • Experience with Python, R, or another programming language used for data analysis.  
  • Ability to work with large datasets and perform data cleaning, transformation, and visualization.  
  • Curiosity about energy markets, renewable energy, or electricity system fundamentals.  
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate technical findings clearly. 

What Would Be Nice

  • Familiarity with production cost simulation modeling, GIS, SQL, Git, or workflow automation tools.  
  • Experience with time-series analysis, forecasting methods, or energy market datasets.  
  • Exposure to electricity markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, or SPP. 

 

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is not eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

$23 - $30 USD
