Role Overview
As a Principal Product Manager (PM5) at Cleo, you will spearhead strategy and execution in major areas of the product and business, driving initiatives that create step-change impact on our commercial metrics and user satisfaction. You will collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, analytics, and commercial teams to deliver innovative, engaging product experiences at scale. You’ll also mentor other product managers and shape how product discovery and development happen across your squads.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have proven success at high-growth consumer-focused tech companies (preferably fintech), where rapid iteration, data-driven decision-making, and user-centric design are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Vision: Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for key product areas, aligned with Cleo’s mission. Identify opportunities to create value across squads and product areas.
- Industry Awareness: Monitor fintech trends and consumer developments to stay competitive.
- Problem Solving: Solve interconnected challenges by structuring actionable, impactful steps.Hypothesis-Driven: Use data and a test-and-learn approach to shape tactical and strategic decisions.
- Customer Focus: Collaborate with Product Design and User Research to uncover emerging customer needs. Ensure cohesive customer journeys that align user needs with business goals.
- Thought Leadership: Advocate for a user-first mindset, sharing insights across teams.
- Commercial Focus: Prioritise initiatives with clear revenue and LTV benefits. Balance growth, profitability, and user satisfaction effectively.
- Delivery & Impact: Define best practices for planning, prioritisation, and execution. Deliver significant growth and engagement improvements using KPIs.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Foster a culture of ownership and accountability within squads and drive collaboration and transparency across roadmaps.
- Stakeholder Management: Align on strategic priorities with senior leaders and resolve ambiguity.
- Mentorship & Development: Coach PMs to grow technical and soft skills.
- Bias to Action: Identify and execute opportunities, even in ambiguity.
- Disagree & Commit: Advocate for the best decisions while respecting outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- Industry Background: Extensive experience (6-8+ years) in product management roles at high-growth consumer-focused tech companies. Fintech experience (consumer financial products) is highly preferred.
- Scale & Complexity: Demonstrated success overseeing product strategies across multiple squads or high impact / scope product lines, delivering impactful growth or revenue increases.
- Strategic Acumen: Ability to define and drive a compelling product vision, linking daily execution to long-term business objectives in a dynamic fintech environment.
- Analytical Mindset: Proficient in using data to make strategic decisions, with a strong understanding of experiment design, user research, and A/B testing.
- Influential Leadership: Proven track record of guiding and inspiring cross-functional teams and driving results in complex environments without direct authority,
- User-First: Deep empathy for customer needs, translating them into innovative products that balance user delight with commercial goals
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative, and sometimes ambiguous environment—thriving on continuous learning and experimentation.
How long will the process take?
We aim to move as fast as possible. Usually 2-3 weeks is enough time for us all to get to know each other.
- Step 1: 30-45 minute video call with a member of our Talent Team to find out more about your experience and mutual fit for Cleo
- Step 2: 1 hour with the Hiring Manager - Tom May, Product Director - New Ventures
- Step 3: Take home task to be presented to two of our Wider Leadership Team
- Step 4: 45 minutes with two cross-functional peers from engineering, user experience, commercial or data
