LOCATION: This position is an onsite role, based in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Clif Bar Plant.

Mission: This role will be extremely flexible and enjoy a high-change environment where priorities shift from day to day, while continuously working to support of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment, and to ensure operations comply with all federal, state, and local regulations. The successful EHSS Specialist will work and build trusted partnerships across shifts and levels of the organization, and act as a champion for Clif Bar’s Aspirations.

Responsibilities & Outcomes:

  • Directly support the plant’s EHSS Management System to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and Clif Bar programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage with employees to promote safe behaviors and a world-class safety culture.
  • Support EHSS objectives to foster continuous improvement.
  • Anticipate, identify, evaluate, and work to correct hazardous conditions, practices, and behaviors.
  • Prepare incident reports conduct incident investigations.
  • Provide leadership around initial incident management, medical treatment, and ongoing rehabilitative efforts.
  • Coordinate and oversee services provided by occupational health contractors and medical professionals.
  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate EHSS training.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team and maintain a state of emergency preparedness.
  • Coordinate and oversee site security.
  • Facilitate safety committee meetings and/or provide technical expertise to the team.
  • Ability to support 24-hour operations, including routine crossover with all shifts and on-call duties.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and their application in food production.
  • Experience with maintenance and oversight of Environmental, Health, Safety, & Sustainability programs.
  • Experienced at training maintenance and production personnel.
  • Experience with Sustainability practices and initiatives.
  • Experience with previous food manufacturing plant preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) year degree with a preferable focus on Safety or other protective discipline or equivalent experince.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience in a safety capacity in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications such as OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, or ISO preferred.
