Summary
This position curates strategic events and experiences designed for philanthropists that inspire curiosity, connection, and action on climate. The Director, Event Curation is in charge of overseeing the overall event from strategy and design through flawless execution. You will lead a cross-functional team of staff and vendors, each responsible for key areas, and be responsible yourself for leading on program and content, working with a variety of voices and formats to bring new and impactful programs and experiences that connect with philanthropists.
Managerial Responsibilities
This role does not manage any direct reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Event Strategy and Management (50%)
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Philanthropy team leads to develop an annual events calendar aligned with Climate Lead’s strategic and communications goals.
- Assess each planned event for necessary resources and staff assignments.
- Create and manage events budget in line with communications budget.
- Oversee external vendors to manage production, logistics and design.
- Hire and partner with vendors (e.g., speech coaches) to support storytelling and speaker preparation.
- Define metrics to evaluate event success
- Improve future events by capturing feedback and iterating going forward
- Work closely with the Events & Communications Manager to streamline planning tools, processes, and data management.
Event Design, Curation and Execution (50%)
- Lead decision-making and design process around event purpose, goals, audience, and messaging.
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Philanthropy team leads to ensure content is aligned with strategic communications goals.
- Write creative briefs for each event and turn them into actionable plans with roles, timelines, and deliverables.
- Lead cross-team group to design and execute events, including internal teams and external vendors.
- Serve as content lead, shaping narrative flow, selecting/preparing speakers, and developing visuals or materials.
- Write talking points, messages, speaker briefs and more
- Edit/approve event content, including invitations, landing pages, speaker bios, etc.
- Oversee design and event experience with external support, ensuring all vendors chosen, aesthetic, food choices, and more align with mission and brand.
- Create and finalize program flow and run of shows in consultation with production vendors.

- Content Leadership and Coaching: Acts as a curator and editorial lead, taking ownership of program content; elevates quality by coaching others, refining narratives, and ensuring excellence across all elements of the event experience.
- Collaboration and Influence: Works cross-functionally and builds consensus across stakeholders; balances strong opinions with openness to feedback and iteration.
- Operational Rigor: Brings structure and clarity to fast-moving projects; oversees seamless logistics that elevate the Climate Lead brand through flawless execution.
- Learning and Adaptation: Applies a continuous improvement mindset, leveraging data and feedback to evolve and enhance events over time.
- Mission Alignment: Brings passion for climate impact and believes in the power of philanthropy to drive systemic change.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Minimum 10 years of experience in event strategy, event design, content curation-and project management, preferably in philanthropy, nonprofit, or social impact settings.
- Demonstrated experience designing and managing content-rich events for high-net-worth individuals or senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional projects and teams under tight timelines.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, storytelling, and public speaking.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems; comfort using planning and collaboration tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly matrixed environment.
- Experience curating issue-based content and working with subject matter experts. Must be able to write and edit and be skilled in storytelling and oral communications.
- Creative, strategic thinker with strong instincts about what moves audiences to act.
- Commitment to humility, inclusiveness, and willingness to "roll up sleeves" on all aspects of event delivery.
Salary Range: $207,500 - 230,000
Work Environment
Climate Lead is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. There is an option for this position to be remote for candidates based in the Washington, DC or New York Metropolitan Areas with occasional travel to our Headquarters.
