Legal Department Intern (NYC based)
Scope and Purpose of Project:
Please note that this is an unpaid internship opportunity, working 20-hours per week, and in our NYC office 2-3 days per week. We will only consider candidates who receive academic credit and/or stipend from an academic institution. Please be sure to outline your academic sponsorship in your cover letter.
The legal department of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation is seeking a detail-oriented college intern to join our in-house legal department. This position provides and opportunity to gain practical experience in corporate governance administration and exposure to many aspects of an in-house legal department, including reviewing, developing, and negotiating contracts and advising colleagues on legal risks. The intern will support the legal team with administrative and research projects.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist with corporate governance tasks, including maintaining organizational records, tracking compliance deadlines, and preparing board materials;
- Organize and manage legal documents, agreements, and filings;
- Assist with contract review and organization with opportunities to observe negotiation and risk assessment processes;
- Support special projects that provide insight into the broader responsibilities of an in-house legal department;
- Handle administrative tasks efficiently to ensure smooth legal operations; and
- Comply with Clinton Foundation policies and procedures as presented to intern.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion;
- A proactive approach to learning and problem-solving; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn.
