Communications Manager (NYC-based)
About the Opportunity
The Clinton Foundation Marketing and Communications team is responsible for developing external communications, campaigns, and creative content in service of advancing the work of the Clinton Foundation and understanding of President Clinton’s lifetime of public service. This team of communicators is comprised of writers, marketers, producers, media specialists, content and digital strategists, metrics and data analysts, and creative professionals.
The Communications Manager will be primarily responsible for telling the stories of the work and impact of the Clinton Foundation’s programs. The Communications Manager will be responsible for proactively building relationships with reporters and securing earned media; staying up to date on programming within the Foundation to identify opportunities; and to draft owned, written, and digital content. The Communications Manager will also manage rollouts and pitching efforts with supervision from team and department leadership.
This role is hybrid (2 - 3 days per week) in our New York City office.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and manage storytelling opportunities for Clinton Foundation programs. Work to build and maintain relationships with a diverse portfolio of reporters to secure coverage of Foundation work. Regularly liaise with Foundation programmatic staff to identify opportunities, and assess options for pitching and storytelling through Foundation channels and earned media.
- Create content to tell the stories of the Foundation’s work. Compose and clear press releases, fact sheets, op-eds, newsroom posts, and other written content. Work with the Marketing and Digital teams to help create multimedia and social content that can be deployed strategically through Foundation and external channels.
- Assist with reactive press support as needed: manage and field incoming press inquiries in the Foundation press inbox; be able to provide research, recommendations, and strategic assessments for press inquiries, including those directed to principals.
- Provide press logistical support for Foundation events.
Minimum Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
- At least 6 years of professional experience in media relations in positions of increasing responsibility. At least 1 of those years must have included either managing people or managing projects to completion
- At least 3-5 years in media relations including building and maintaining relationships with reporters; managing press at large events; and experience conducting media research and pitching reporters
- Familiarity with social media channels, research and media applications such as Cision and Lexis/Nexis
- Proven quick and thorough research and writing ability
Compensation & Benefits
Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $75 - 85K annually, depending on the experience you bring. This role is not eligible for overtime pay. This range is based on NYC market rates and may be adjusted if you will be working remotely.
