Engineering Manager, Agentic Discovery
About Us
At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.
At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.

Engineering Manager, Agentic Discovery
About the Department
Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) is where new and bold products are built and released within Cloudflare. Rather than being constrained by the structures which make Cloudflare a hugely successful business, we are able to leverage them to deliver entirely new tools and products to our customers. Cloudflare’s edge and network make it possible to solve problems at massive scale and efficiency which would be impossible for almost any other organization.
About the Team
We build the products that enable the next era of the Internet: making domains Readable, Discoverable, and Callable for autonomous AI agents.
Here at Cloudflare, agentic discovery is a core part of our vision for the Agentic Internet. As AI agents change how humans and machines find, evaluate, and act on information, businesses need tools to control how they are represented and reached. We build capabilities that enable website owners to prepare their sites for agent interaction, test and observe how agents read their content, establish open interaction standards (like WebMCP), and create entirely new channels to reach agentic audiences.
We are a tight-knit group that communicates and collaborates regularly. We celebrate our achievements, support each other when we make mistakes, and hold each other and our work to a high standard.
About the Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to build and lead the engineering team across our Agentic Discovery portfolio.
You will be responsible for the people, execution, and engineering quality behind customer-facing products that help businesses manage how AI agents understand, represent, and interact with their digital properties. You will partner closely with Product Management and engineering teams across Cloudflare to shape priorities around Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), content ingestion/indexing, agent observation and testing tools, and open tool-execution standards (such as WebMCP and Generative UI).
This is a management role for someone who is deeply technically credible. You will not be expected to write most of the code, but you should be able to understand the systems your engineers operate, challenge architectural decisions around distributed systems and web-scale data pipelines, ask the right questions when something is going wrong, and step into a technical problem when the situation calls for it.
At the same time, we are looking for a manager, not a tech lead with direct reports. Your success will be measured by the quality and output of the team you build, the engineers you develop, and the systems and products they deliver.
This role may require flexibility to be on-call outside of standard working hours to address technical issues as needed.
What you'll do
- Manage, coach, and grow engineers working across customer-facing Agentic Discovery products, AEO tooling, and agent-web interaction standards.
- Own execution by establishing clear priorities, creating predictable delivery, and giving engineers the context and autonomy to own meaningful areas of the product.
- Lead the development of tools enabling Cloudflare customers to make their content Readable (structured content transformation), Discoverable (indexing, directories, and AEO), and Callable (WebMCP, APIs, Generative UI) for autonomous agents.
- Build tools for customers to test, observe, measure, and control how AI agents find and interact with their websites and applications.
- Partner closely with Product Management to understand customer problems, shape the roadmap, and turn broad opportunities into clear engineering outcomes.
- Identify how Cloudflare's global network and edge signals can enable unique products that help businesses reach trusted agentic audiences at scale.
- Balance near-term product delivery with thoughtful technical investments that allow promising ideas to grow.
- Own the operational health of the systems in your area, including observability, incident response, data quality, and long-term reliability.
- Develop technical leaders and create space for engineers to lead architecture and implementation.
Responsibilities
We want you to love it here. This role is a great fit for you if:
- You have led and developed a high-performing engineering team(s) and can point to what that team shipped and how the people on it grew.
- You are technically credible with experienced engineers. You can review a design, understand the trade-offs in distributed systems or web-scale data pipelines, and recognize when a technical problem needs deeper investigation.
- You are comfortable managing a team working across several related technical areas (such as search/indexing, protocol standards, and UI engineering) and can create clarity without requiring every problem to fit neatly into a single box.
- You care deeply about reliability and quality, particularly when the output of a system is data that users and AI agents rely on to navigate the Internet.
- You have strong product judgment and enjoy working with Product Management to decide what is worth building, what needs improvement, and what should not be built at all.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and with finding structure in areas where the opportunity is clearer than the roadmap.
- You communicate clearly, give direct feedback, and can explain complex technical decisions to both engineers and non-engineers.
Examples of Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Strong technical grounding in distributed systems, web-scale data platforms, agentic architectures, Internet infrastructure, or adjacent areas.
- Experience building customer-facing products involving content indexing, crawling, analytics, or complex user interaction patterns.
- Experience operating systems where correctness, data quality, and reliability matter as much as feature delivery.
- A track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers.
- Experience partnering closely with Product Management to shape and execute a roadmap.
- Experience taking products or major capabilities from an ambiguous opportunity to a clear customer outcome.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
Bonus Points
- Hands-on familiarity with emerging agentic technologies and standards such as WebMCP, AEO, and Generative UI.
- Experience building products for AI developers, AI agents, publishers, or content-heavy websites.
- Experience working with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platforms, search/indexing, or testing and observability platforms.
- Experience turning complex underlying internet systems or data into intuitive, high-value products for a broad audience.
What Makes Cloudflare Special?
We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.
Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.
Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.
1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.
Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We’d love to hear from you!
