
Business Analytics Lead
Coast is re-imagining the trillion-dollar U.S. B2B card payments infrastructure, with a focus on the country’s 500,000 commercial fleets, 40 million commercial vehicles, and many million commercial drivers. The incumbent technologies that cater to these customers are decades old, and drivers and fleets increasingly demand modern digital experiences and affordable and transparent financial services products. Coast's mission is to deliver them at a transformational scale, beginning with the Coast Fleet and Fuel Card built on a cutting-edge spend management platform.
As a founding hire on the Business Analytics team, you will be key to driving the data foundations at Coast. This person should be curious, self-starter and collaborative to deliver on various top business priorities and identify new opportunities for improvement. This role provides a great opportunity for growth as you will interact daily with the head of various functions (Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations, Legal, Finance and the CEO) to deliver on various initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain robust analytical frameworks, dashboards, and KPIs that translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for all stakeholders
- Own key dashboards and KPIs that help us monitor performance and spot opportunities. Ensure leadership has the insights they need to make decisions fast
- Partner with data engineering to define clean, consistent, well-modeled data tables and metrics that power analytics across the org
- Regularly engage with sales, product, finance, customer support and compliance teams to understand their needs and tailor analytical solutions that support regulatory compliance, risk management, customer acquisition, and service improvements
- Conduct in-depth ad-hoc analyses to support strategic business initiatives and identify growth opportunities or operational inefficiencies - exploratory analyses on growth, operations, pricing, marketing ROI, customer segmentation, and more
- Continuously monitor and evaluate key business metrics, providing recommendations for improvement based on trends and predictive analytics
- Ensure the rest of the organization can perform simple queries independently by providing right BI tools + data visibility (e.g. data dictionaries, standard views)
Requirements:
- 4–6+ years in a data analyst or business analyst role (ideally at a startup or high-growth company)
- Analytical thinker who can translate messy data into clear, actionable insights
- Experienced with BI tools and data visualization, and excited to bring creative ideas for how we present and interact with data
- Curious, scrappy, and driven by impact—not just perfect models
- Great communicator who can distill complexity and influence decision
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and helping build processes from the ground up
- You are practical and business-minded, smart and creative, and excited about the rewards and volatility of an early-stage venture-backed startup
Bonus Qualifications:
- Proficient in SQL (Python or R is an even bigger plus)
- Experience with B2B Fintech
- Familiarity with experimentation / A/B testing
Compensation
Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our total compensation package that also includes benefits, signing bonus, and equity. Pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Coast employees. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at Coast to fall healthily within the range based on these factors.
- Salary range: $110,000 - $150,000 annually
- Signing bonus
- Equity grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company, with meaningful potential upside given the company’s early stage
