Gas Market Analyst Internal
Role Description
We are looking for a hungry, hardworking addition to our Gas Analytics team who lives and breathes markets. You will be an integral part of the next phase of growth, supporting the buildout of analytics that directly drive trading decisions across the spot, short term, and long-term gas markets. This isn't a 9-to-5 job - markets don't sleep, and neither should your curiosity.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a commodity that will remain central to global energy for at least the next 15 years and likely much longer. What makes gas particularly fascinating is not just its staying power, but how fast it is globalising. Its demand patterns are volatile and unpredictable, far more than oil, driven by swings in heating and power burn across regions. We expect intense price volatility in both directions in the coming years. Our goal is to be set up to monetise it - and you'll be at the sharp end of that edge.
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Expand the geographic and temporal scope of our European gas balances with relentless attention to detail
- Help maintain and evolve the broader gas analytics infrastructure - if something breaks at 2 AM during a supply shock, you're the one fixing it
- Generate trade ideas for the short-term gas markets, with the aim of expanding into the long-term space. We want ideas that lead to real P&L
- React to market events in real-time: when pipelines blow up or LNG cargoes divert, you're already updating models while others are reading headlines
- Challenge every assumption, interrogate every data source, and never accept "that's how we've always done it" as an answer
Requirements
- Technical skills are a plus but not required. What matters is a deep desire to learn and improve them, especially in this new AI augmented world. You'll master new systems in days, not weeks
- Strong general performance in your current role - we want proven winners, not potential
- Demonstrated commercial acumen through tangible successful outcomes - show us the money you've made or saved
- Deep curiosity and a relentless drive to uncover the truth, you turn over stones on your own without being asked
- Eagerness to build something excellent from the ground up, with the stamina to see it through
- Prior commercial gas knowledge is not required. You will learn on the job. What we value is the hunger to learn fast and the grit to push through the steep learning curve
- Not a clock watcher: when volatility strikes or models need rebuilding, you're energised, not checking your watch
- Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities - in volatile markets, yesterday's project might be irrelevant today
- Willing to get your hands dirty with the operational minutiae that separates good analytics from great analytics
Potential Future Growth Paths
- Trader (for those who prove they can generate alpha)
- Gas Strategist supporting spec trading
- Senior Gas Analyst
Target start date: 1 October 2025 (sooner if notice allows)
Application deadline: 31 July 2025

Final note: This role is for those who see opportunity where others see obstacles, who are excited by market chaos rather than intimidated by it, and who measure success in P&L impact, not hours logged. If you're looking for work-life balance, this isn't it. If you're looking to build something that matters in one of the world's most dynamic commodity markets, let's talk.
