The Role

We are hiring a Data Engineer to build and operate the data infrastructure that directly supports our trading activities.

This role sits close to the commercial edge. You will own production grade data pipelines handling real time and batch market data, working directly with traders, developers and data scientists to ensure reliability, performance and data quality suitable for live trading decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate real time and batch data pipelines for market and trading data
• Build low latency streaming systems for high volume time series data
• Develop and maintain core components of the data platform from ingestion to analytics
• Ensure data quality, monitoring, and observability across production systems
• Work closely with traders to translate commercial requirements into technical solutions
• Take ownership of production systems, incidents, and long term improvements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field
• 3 plus years of professional Python experience
• 2 plus years in a Data Engineering role
• Strong experience working with time series data and market style datasets
• Monitoring & Observability: experience instrumenting pipelines/services with logging, metrics, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, ELK/EFK, CloudWatch) and operating on-call/incident workflows
• Strong grounding in data quality and validation (e.g., schema enforcement, automated checks/tests such as Great Expectations or equivalent)
• Solid SQL and data modelling skills (e.g., dimensional modelling, performance tuning, indexing)
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL or MySQL and familiarity with NoSQL databases
• Experience with Docker and CI CD pipelines
• Comfortable operating in a fast paced, commercially critical environment

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting power, gas, or commodity trading environments
• Cloud experience on AWS or Azure
• Exposure to Airflow, Dagster and dbt
• Experience with real time streaming platforms such as Kafka or Kinesis
• Proficiency in NoSQL databases, with a solid understanding of their design principles, trade offs, and application within data heavy environments
