Curriculum Content Developer

Remote or Seattle, WA

COMPANY PROFILE

CodeAI is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science (CS) as part of their core K-12 education. We increase participation in AI+CS education by reaching students of all backgrounds where they are — at their skill level, in their schools, and in ways that inspire them to keep learning, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. The leading provider of K-12 AI+CS education curriculum across the globe, CodeAI also organizes the annual Hour of AI campaign, building on the legacy of the Hour of Code, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world!

A unifying approach in a divided world

CodeAI's global role in the K-12 computer science movement is only possible because we use a unifying approach across diverse and often divided stakeholders. At a time of increasing polarization, the idea of increasing opportunity for students unites people from across the political spectrum. CodeAI's team members, students, teachers, and supporters have diverse and diverging view points, and they are all welcome in our mission. Read more

JOB SUMMARY

CodeAI is seeking a 6-12 Curriculum Content Developer to design and develop the engaging, effective curriculum teachers need to bring high-quality CS and AI education to students across the U.S. and around the globe. In this role you'll create curriculum content — from single lessons to multi-week progressions — for products that reach hundreds of thousands of 6-12 students every year.

You're an experienced curriculum developer with deep CS and AI content knowledge, classroom-honed pedagogical instincts, and a passion for student-centered learning. You're energized by a fast-moving AI landscape and bring curiosity, ownership, and a bias to action to your craft.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will:

Build CS & AI Curriculum

  • Develop and refine complex 6-12 CS and AI curriculum end to end — from single lessons to multi-week progressions — including curriculum design, on-platform levels, teacher and student resources, and assessments.
  • Design learning experiences that help students deeply understand, use, and critically evaluate AI, staying ahead of a fast-moving AI landscape so curriculum stays current and relevant.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate and strengthen your development work while holding a high bar for accuracy and pedagogical quality.
  • Ground every lesson in research-based, culturally responsive, student-centered pedagogy so the work is engaging and approachable for all students and their teachers.

Iterate with Feedback & Data

  • Treat every iteration as a chance to improve, incorporating feedback from peers, teachers, students, subject-matter experts, and classroom observations.
  • Analyze student engagement and learning metrics to refine content and ensure curriculum meets or exceeds engagement and learning goals.
  • Collaborate with and provide feedback to other curriculum developers on the team.

Collaborate & Advance the Field

  • Partner across functions with professional learning content developers, software engineers, and others on the development of products.
  • Stay current on CS and AI content, pedagogy, and best practices; share what you learn, present at conferences, and contribute to discussions that advance CS and AI education.

At the Senior level

  • Take a lead role in larger and/or more ambiguous curriculum efforts, develop innovations that have cross-team impact, and mentor and review the work of other content developers.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • 4-6+ years working in CS and AI education, ideally including recent classroom experience teaching CS and AI
  • Fluency reading and programming in one or more text-based languages — JavaScript, Python, and/or Java
  • Strong knowledge of the CS and AI concepts in the 6-12 grade bands of the CSTA standards and the AI Literacy Framework
  • Experience developing CS and AI curriculum used beyond your own classroom — across multiple districts or at the state level — including designing multi-week sequences with a backward-design approach
  • Comfort and curiosity using AI tools in your work, and genuine interest in teaching both with and about AI
  • A grounding in research-based, culturally responsive, student-centered pedagogy, and the ability to turn it into engaging learning experiences that adapt across a variety of learners and teaching environments
  • The ability to analyze and synthesize feedback and data from a variety of sources and use it to refine curriculum
  • A track record of managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality content on time and within scope, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong collaboration and written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with CodeAI curriculum and/or other CS education products
  • Passion for CS and AI education and the CodeAI mission

We prefer candidates who also have:

  • Experience developing AI-focused curriculum or learning products
  • Experience developing or delivering online learning experiences for grades 6-12

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Work within the continental United States
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events
