Senior Executive Business Partner
About Us
Codeword is a communication design agency that helps brands create breakthrough comms, content, and community experiences.
We’re a fast-moving team of writers, editors, designers, strategists, videographers, PR mavens, and even a few traditional marketers.
Our incredible roster of big and small tech clients trust us to launch their startups, run multi-channel campaigns, grow their user bases, and lead comprehensive PR and marketing initiatives. We’re storytellers and brand engineers, and we love big ideas that serve a real purpose.
Codeword is a remote-first agency, though we have physical offices in NYC and SF that we won’t make you visit.
About You
- You are a strategic operator who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- You excel at managing information flow, prioritizing what truly matters, and serving as an extension of a senior leader.
- You have strong business acumen and quickly develop a deep understanding of an organization’s mission, priorities, and stakeholders.
- You’re a natural relationship builder — empathetic, trusted, and able to collaborate with leadership, cross-functional partners, and external stakeholders with ease.
- Project and program management are among your standout strengths, and you’re known for delivering complex initiatives with clarity and momentum.
- You have strong communication skills, including the ability to draft executive-level emails, presentations, and follow-ups.
- You’re highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated by helping a team operate smoothly behind the scenes.
- Bonus points if you love problem-solving, are unflappable under pressure, and can translate strategy into practical, actionable next steps.
About This Role
This is a critical role supporting the Head of Economic & Community Development. You will function as a strategic advisor, operator, and project leader — ensuring the executive’s priorities are executed effectively and the broader organization stays aligned.
You will be deeply embedded with leadership, serving as a proxy for the executive when needed, and helping drive initiatives that span multiple teams, regions, and business functions. Your work will touch everything from strategic goal-setting and project delivery to communications, meeting operations, and daily decision support.
This role requires someone who can think big, operate independently, and manage the details that keep a large, complex organization running smoothly.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as a strategic advisor to the Head of ECD, helping prioritize time, information, and organizational focus.
- Developing a strong understanding of the ECD mission, projects, and the broader Google business to inform decision-making and operate as a reliable proxy when needed.
- Leading and managing cross-functional projects from kick-off to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timely delivery.
- Facilitating communication and collaboration across key internal partners (Finance, GDC, Legal), Google leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Serving as the gatekeeper for the executive’s priorities — managing approvals, administrative requests, budgets, travel, and time-sensitive decisions with daily check-ins.
- Planning, structuring, and facilitating organizational meetings — including staff meetings, offsites, and business reviews — with clear agendas, productive discussions, and actionable outcomes.
- Tracking deadlines, key actions, and follow-ups across all stakeholder groups to maintain momentum and operational excellence.
- Creating quick-turn decks, slides, and visual materials for executive and leadership-level reviews using existing data, dashboards, and team resources.
- Drafting executive communications, including emails, meeting recaps, handoffs to the ECD leadership team, presentations, and reports.
- Streamlining internal processes, improving workflows, and ensuring organizational clarity and accountability.

A few more things you should know about Codeword
- The Codeword dream: Make good money doing work you care about with people you like.
- We love our clients (they write the checks!), which means maintaining a high bar for the creativity, smarts, responsiveness, and communication skills we offer them.
- We’re around 100 people, big enough to handle large-scale marketing programs, small enough that you’ll have an impact on our culture.
- We’re a friendly team, we look after each other, and we grow our careers together.
- We respect everyone’s personal life. After-hours emails are strongly frowned upon, night and weekend work is very rare, and employees are encouraged to pursue their side-hustles.
- We’re all grownups here, and we trust each other to get the work done, whether at home or in an office or a time zone on the other side of the world.
- We believe in defaulting to openness. Our calendars, our salary tiers, and our doors are open for all to see. (Except for secret client stuff, which we guard with our lives.)
- We’re a proud member of the global WE Communications family.
- Equal Opportunity: Codeword provides equal employment opportunity and doesn’t discriminate against employees or applicants because of age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, or other legally protected class status.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Codeword works hard to foster a diverse team and an inclusive workplace where everyone thrives.
We aren’t a traditional agency, so we like to hire people who don’t necessarily fit the agency mold or check all the “right” boxes. If you’re on the fence about applying, please do!
