Executive Director, Precision Medicine Executives

Who We Are:

Cogent Biosciences is a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on developing novel precision therapies to treat a broad range of patients with unmet medical needs. Cogent’s lead program, bezuclastinib, is designed to selectively and potently inhibit exon 17 mutations found within the KIT receptor tyrosine kinase, including KIT D816V. KIT D816V is responsible for driving a rare and serious condition called Systemic Mastocytosis, and exon 17 mutations are also found in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), a type of cancer with strong dependence on oncogenic KIT signaling. Bezuclastinib has exhibited promising initial data across all three trials: APEX in AdvSM, SUMMIT in NonAdvSM and PEAK in GIST, including an encouraging safety profile across 600+ patients in single agent and combination dosing. 


The Role:

The E.D., Precision Medicine Executives will serve as a critical member of the Customer Engagement Leadership Team and will have an exciting opportunity to build Cogent’s Precision Medicine Executive organization in preparation for our first product launch. The V.P. Precision Medicine Executives will provide supervision and guidance to a team of Precision Medicine Executives (PMEs) charged with embedding Cogent within some of the most influential healthcare systems across the United States. The Cogent PME role is best described as a hybrid Regional Diagnostic Expert and Thought Leader Liaison (TLL). This position will be responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing Cogent’s inaugural PME team.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop operating plan and budget for Cogent’s Precision Medicine department that supports the short- and long-term objectives of the broader organization
  • Hire, coach, and develop Cogent’s inaugural PME team prior to FDA approval of Cogent’s innovative medicines
  • Work closely with multiple Cogent stakeholders inside and outside the commercial organization to ensure strategic alignment and execution of key strategies/tactics to advance overall business objectives
  • Partner with external HCP stakeholders at key healthcare systems across the US to ensure seamless access/availability to Cogent treatments post-FDA approval
  • Develop and foster an environment where the overall patient, caregiver, and HCP customer experience are prioritized
  • Ensure that PME team members become embedded in target healthcare systems by differentiating themselves from competitors through delivering consistent value
  • Adapt quickly to needs/adjustments necessitated by launch preparations and contribute to supporting both corporate and field- based colleagues in navigating a dynamic and evolving market to achieve and exceed expected results in a complex specialty environment
  • Completes field coaching report after each working travel session
  • Plans and conducts effective team meetings
  • Ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring the PME team incorporates all appropriate regulatory and legal compliance into their daily activities and business practices

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or healthcare equivalent degree required
  • Minimum 15 years of previous pharmaceutical, biotech, and/or medical experience with a strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical marketplace and deep understanding of industry and broader trends in the healthcare landscape
  • Minimum of 10 years combined experience successfully leading specialty and/or rare disease (Hematology/Oncology preferred) managers and/or representatives required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an operating plan and budget at the department level
  • Collaborative leader and organizationally savvy team player with a history of successfully building, leading, influencing, and motivating high-performance teams to achieve results in direct-line and matrix management settings
  • Strong negotiation, partnering, and influencing skills; demonstrated ability to effectively manage business relationships with external strategic partners
  • Prior experience working in large accounts and/or hospitals required. Expert at navigating complexities and removing barriers so team members can advance corporate objectives in service of patients, caregivers, and HCPs
  • Successful product launch experience required
  • Prior experience working across various commercial disciplines (e.g., sales, marketing, market access, operations, etc.) preferred
  • Prior pharma/biotech start-up experience preferred
  • Technologically savvy and committed to leveraging data and advanced analytics daily to drive business results
  • Ability to travel on a frequent overnight basis, with occasional weekend travel, depending on business needs

Salary Range:

$290,000 to $335,000 USD 

Target Bonus: 25%
Exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, and location.
