The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities related to raw materials, components, MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) supplies, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role leads the purchasing team, develops sourcing strategies, manages supplier relationships, and ensures materials are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The Purchasing Manager plays a key role in supporting production goals and driving operational efficiency.
You’ll report to the Senior Purchasing Manager. You will lead a team of 6 buyers, all direct reports. You will work onsite from our Santa Ana, California office.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with production schedules, cost targets, and quality standards
- Supervise, train, and develop a team of buyers and purchasing coordinators. Assign responsibilities, set goals, and monitor performance
- Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers; conduct regular performance reviews focused on quality, delivery, cost, and service
- Support contract negotiations with suppliers to secure the best value while minimizing risk and ensuring supply continuity
- Collaborate with planning, production, and inventory teams to maintain optimal stock levels and avoid material shortages or excess
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal policies, industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001), and applicable regulations
- Oversee data accuracy in the ERP system (e.g., Coupa, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite), including vendor records, lead times, and pricing
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency, reduce lead times, and support lean manufacturing initiatives
- Analyze purchasing data and generate reports on KPIs, spend trends, cost savings, and supplier performance
- Lead by example and be a champion of all company policies, including safety, attendance & security
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2+ years experience in a procurement management role leading direct reports
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Experience in global sourcing and international logistics
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement initiatives and/or ISO, AS, TS standards
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, material planning (MRP), Inventory Control, and just-in-time (JIT) practices
- Excellent mathematics, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Global procurement management experience, strongly preferred
- Injection Molding experience, strongly preferred
- Industry-specific knowledge or certifications (e.g., CPM, CPSM, APICS), preferred
- Master's degree or MBA, preferred
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $81,855-$110,745. Actual compensation on this range varies based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including location, job level, experience, and skill set. This role may be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation, please ask your recruiter for details.
