Director, External Communications
Collegium Pharmaceutical is building a leading, diversified biopharmaceutical company committed to improving the lives of people living with serious medical conditions. We have a leading portfolio of responsible pain management and neuropsychiatry medications.
Hybrid: Required to be onsite in Stoughton, MA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director, External Communications will help elevate Collegium’s corporate reputation, scientific leadership, and market presence through coordinated media, digital, and product communications. This role is responsible for day-to-day external communications strategy and execution, including owned channel content (social, web), press materials, product communications in collaboration with Commercial, and external-facing corporate storytelling.
This leader will partner closely with Communications, Commercial, Investor Relations, and HR to support strategic priorities ranging from corporate brand building and media engagement to major announcements, sponsorships, and digital content. The ideal candidate combines strong writing, media instincts, digital fluency, and project management skills, with experience communicating in regulated industries or healthcare environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate & Product Communications
- Translate enterprise strategy into external-facing programs that advance reputation and position the company for growth.
- Develop integrated campaigns, content, and storytelling across paid, earned, shared, and owned channels.
- Develop and execute external content that reflects corporate strategy and product priorities.
- Draft and manage corporate press releases, statements, FAQs, fact sheets, and other media-facing materials.
- Partner with Commercial teams on product communications aligned with brand strategy and regulatory guidance.
- Support communications for IR, CSR, scientific milestones, product launches, life-cycle events, and business development announcements.
Digital & Social Media Channels
- Manage media relations, digital analytics, press materials, and strategic sponsorships to drive visibility and impact.
- Lead strategy, governance, and day-to-day management of corporate social channels.
- Plan and execute the editorial calendar across owned digital platforms.
- Create or oversee content production (copy, visual, multimedia) that amplifies corporate news and brand messaging.
- Monitor analytics, identify trends, and optimize performance across channels.
- Partner with Legal/Regulatory to ensure compliance and risk management in digital environments.
Web Content & Brand Execution
- Oversee company website and manage day-to-day website content updates and ongoing CMS needs.
- Partner with external agencies on brand, UX, content, and technical enhancements.
- Ensure messaging, visual identity, and tone are consistent across all digital touchpoints.
- Contribute to corporate brand and narrative initiatives (messaging systems, brand refresh, website redesign), while partnering with SVP on strategic direction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance
- Collaborate with Commercial, Scientific Communications, Legal, IR, and HR to ensure alignment, accuracy and consistency across all channels.
- Manage agency partners (PR, digital, creative) for execution, timelines, and deliverables.
- Maintain content calendars, review processes, and performance metrics for external channels.

QUALIFICATIONS
- 8–12 years of experience in external communications, public relations, digital communications, or related fields.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate scientific and commercial information for external audiences.
- Experience managing social media channels, editorial calendars, and digital content.
- Successful track record collaborating with PR or digital agencies.
- Comfort interacting with leaders and translating complex information into clear, accessible content.
- Experience in healthcare, biotech/pharma, or other regulated industries required.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms, social management tools, analytics platforms, and creative workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or related field.
Pay Range
$209,500 - $224,000 USD
